My surgery isn't until Monday, but based on my surgeon's diet I shouldn't be eating anything at one week out, just drinking. From what I understand, the goals the first week are to get enough fluids (my surgeon wants 72 ounces, I've seen some that want only 64) THEN if you can add proteins.

How are you feeling?

I am 3 days out and I'm drinking...or should I say sipping.  I'm on liquids for a month which should be interesting.  It's sort of liberating actually.  Not much to decide...just drink, and keep up with grams of protein and fluid ounces.

Rock that sleeve!

Hi..April 9th here. I have broth..(onion soup mix drained)...crystal lite with some isopure grape..(just started that) jello...much like the hospital. I am glad you brought this up...postop diet says 1st week after surgery, blah blah..so does that mean...the week OF the surgery is that first week?...or the week after that. If the first week starts the day after surgery..then ..woohoo! milk based protein shakes!!! quite an upgrade! Hope someone can clarify.

Everyone's diet is so different.  Right now, I'm 5 days post op and still on clear liquids, but come Monday....it's ON! I'm pureeing everything in sight (at least that's how I'm starting to feel). LOL.  I'll be on purees for 3 weeks and then start adding one solid food a day into my diet for 4 more weeks, with steak being the last thing to try.  Then I can eat whatever I can tolerate.

During my clear liquids phase, it's mostly protein added to crystal ligh****er and unsweetened, diluted cranberry or grape juice and  decaf peppermint tea.   I can only take so many SF popsicles so now I'm tired of those.

Thanks for reminding me about soup. I was sleeved 4/11. I have been drinking something that Dr. Cirangle sells in San Francisco. Didn't have my surgery done by him but  a friend did and she gave me what she didn't use. I like the fruit punch and crangrape. I didn't like the beef boillion or raspbery tea. It has protein already in it, I think 20 or so. I plan on ordering more shortly. I have to be on liquids for 2 weeks, any liquid and that includes yogurt and milk products but I'm not tolerating those well. Here is the website www.lapsf.com

I was sent home on full liquids,  which is anything that you could drink through a straw,  so a lot of broth, cream soups,  tea, watered down juice, yogurt,  Popsicles, jello, pudding, protein shakes.  Then my first post op visit  was day 10 and he took out the staples he used on my incisions.   since i was doing fine i got to move to the soft food stage whi*****luded a lot of egg/tuna/chicken salad, Wendy's chili, turkey chili, beans and cheese,  turkey meatballs with spaghetti sauce,  scrambled eggs with cheese.  It was nice to move on up in the foods.  Then at 4 weeks i could eat anything i wanted except raw veggies,  all veggies had to be cooked very soft until 3 months out, per my instructions.  congrats on your surgery and i wish you every success on your journey  :o) Jeani
