Thinking about a revision to VSG or DS....Please chime in...
Hello VSGers!
I had a RNY in 8-2009. I've lost all my excess weight and had no surgical complications at all. However, since about 6 months out I've been experiencing reactive hypoglycemia symptoms. At first it started out as feeling shaky when my blood sugar would get low, but now at almost 2 years out it has progressed to confusion, difficulty speaking, near passing out and has become much more unpredictable despite following the low carb diet protocol.
I am looking for your comments and experiences regarding hypoglycemia and the VSG surgery. With RNY it is fairly common. How common is it with VSG? How severe is it usually? Has anyone who has revised from a RNY to a VSG had it resolve completely? I've spoken w/ one surgeon already and he was rather optimistic that my reactive hypoglycemia symptoms would resolve once the pyloric sphincter was back in place. What are your thoughts?
Thank you for sharing your experiences!

I have a friend here on OH who had to have his RNY revised to a VSG because of his severe reactive hypoglycemia. Thankfully, the revision did the trick and he hasn't had any more episodes but his were very severe, just like what you are describing.

i had vsg one year ago...i have had pretty severe episodes of what you describe as low blood sugar, some days i have to eat about every forty five minutes... to gain control over the shaking, don't know if this helps, i was a diabetic pre surgery, and am not any longer, but do still take a dose of glumetzia for prevention as my surgeon prescribed. don't know whether that has to be looked at or not, but keep asking this question so more people can respond...there is a diabetic forum also on OH so check that out.... tammy
