rapid weight loss and effect on memory and energy
Hi- I'm an oncology RN and had the same concerns. I'm 16 days post op today. I had concentration issue for the first week or so until I had really cleared the anesthesia and pain meds. My mom has always been a slow metabolizer and I must be too. I don't remember much of the first 36 hours, but I was moving and walking. I must have been like a zombie! No lingering memory issues at this point. I am very careful about getting enough protein and fluids. My doc recommended a full 4 weeks off. It wasn't easy to agree to thay, but my boss was very supportive and now I'm glad to have the time off. It's almost a full time job to get in the routine of eating properly and making exercise a habit. It seems like that may be tricky in your field too. Especially making time for meals and snacks. I would not have been able to go back after one week. I got tired by 2 or 3 PM. It takes enrgy to heal, and if you are committing to the surgey, nurse to nurse, allow yourself the time to really recover before going back. Remember Maslov- take care of yourself so you can take care of your moms and babies. Good luck!
Thanks for all the replys. Kim, your advice on time off work is just what I was looking for. I am a quick healer...I had a bladder suspension and was back at work the 2 days later (although only 1/2 a day)....and I did really well post hysterectomy....however I was 24 when that happened. 20 years could make a huge difference. I know the protein will be very important to how I feel in the post op period. I am looking into protein sources for the clear liquid diet portion. Most protein sources are milk or whey based...and I am allergic to milk...and have never come across a protein powder that would be considered "clears" that uses other sources of protein. I think the protein in the first 2 weeks will be my biggest challenge. After I get to fulls...I think I will be fine. Any advice on getting protein during the clear diet portion that would not be milk based?
Side note....might be changing my doc to Dr. Aceves....can't figure out how to change the doc on my profile. anyone know how I can do that?
Thanks so much for your words of advice. Hopefully will be sleeved in 12 or 13 weeks. Wish I had the money sooner....but alas....I must be patient a bit longer.
