Warning - THIS IS A RIDICULOUSLY LONG POST!

Last week was my 6 month surgiversary. I would have posted this sooner, but I went to Seattle for the weekend and have been out living and loving my life! Amazing what this surgery will do.

For those interested, you can also read my 3 month post: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg/4372183/3-Months-out-w ith-pics/

Stats
Highest Weight: 360
Surgery Consultation Weight: 340
Day of Surgery: 318
Current Weight (7/14): 226.6

Total loss of 133.4 from my highest, 113.4 since consult, and 91.4 since surgery!
Woot woot! While I was secretly hoping to hit 100 lost in 6 months, frankly I’m so over the moon that I don’t care. Plus I know why my weight loss has slowed down, and I have no one to blame but myself.

When I started this process back in September, I was wearing a size 28 Lane Bryant jeans and 18/20 or 22/24 tops. Right now I’m in size 16w jeans and a size L top from normal stores. I keep looking at these clothes and they’re so tiny!

Here’s my weekly /monthly breakdown:

Complications / Issues:
I have been very fortunate not to have had too many complications since surgery, like acid reflux. If I eat too fast, I sometimes get a feeling of pressure in my sternum/chest area. A couple of times I have had too much sugar (yes, I will admit that it has happened) and my body will react in a way that I assume is reactive hypoglycemia / dumping. It’s not pleasant, and I do not wish to repeat that ever again (10 minutes of my life cuddling up to an office toilet). It’s still a learning process.

My energy levels have been great. My last lab results were excellent, and my bp this morning was 114/60. Apparently that’s good.

Food/Liquid/Vitamins
I can pretty much eat anything these days, which is both good and bad. My doctor has me on a 3 meals a day, no snacks plan, no liquid calories. I struggle with this. Snacking is my downfall and I must plan, plan, plan or I find myself looking for excuses to hit the world’s most evil office candy jar.

Here’s a sample day of food for me:
Breakfast
: ½ cup greek yogurt, 1 100 cal pack almonds/walnuts, half a handful frozen blueberries, 1 packet splenda
Lunch: 2 oz chicken breast, ¼ to ½ cup sautéed veggies
Snack: coffee with sf creamer, unsweetened iced tea, a skinny vanilla latte, or sometimes cheese & 2-3 crackers
Dinner: ½ to ¾ hamburger patty with melted cheese, or 2 oz steak, some veggies
Pills: 2 multi-vitamins, 3 calcium pills, 1 iron pill, 1 B-12 sublingual pill

I need to be better about tracking, but I believe this to be about 700-900 calories a day. While I haven’t banished carbs from my diet, they don’t really do me any good nutrition-wise so I do try to avoid them whenever possible.

Exercise
I work out with a trainer once/week. In addition, I go to the gym another 3-4 times or walk at lunch. I should be doing more strength training to work on toning up my arms and legs.

Life in General
…is pretty darn amazing.

OK, so seriously am having some OH issues tonight. I'll try to fini**** here and post pics:

Life in General:
I don’t ever remember being this weight – I probably was at some point my freshman year of high school or in 8th grade when I played sports constantly. It’s a lot of fun going to the mall and having so many choices as to where I can shop, instead of just one store. That said, I’ve been trying to limit my recent shopping to Goodwill – much cheaper and a lot of options! Although I never thought my self-confidence to be low, I do feel much more confident in myself and am much more willing to stick up for myself now.

I went to Seattle this past weekend and flew for the first time since surgery. It was amazing having so much more room in the seat and not having to worry about making the person next to me uncomfortable.  When I boarded the plane, out of habit I extended the seat belt all the way out and then realized I actually had a lot of seat belt left over after properly buckling myself in – huh! I was also able to walk all over Seattle (easily 7-8 miles on Friday alone) up and down hills and it wasn’t that big of a deal. I have no problems in restaurant booths now. Guys smile at me more and I get hit on much more frequently now, which is always a bit surprising. Also, I cross my legs all the time – because I CAN.

And perhaps my favorite news, I’ve been dating a pretty amazing guy for a few months now. I’ve known him for over a year, and always had a huge crush on him, and we started hanging out in May as he agreed to help me with a duet for a friend’s wedding. And then we got to know each other more, and he started liking me too! We’re now officially dating and I am so incredibly happy. I know all of the positive changes I’ve made to my life this past year have helped get me to a point where I can be in a good, stable, healthy relationship.

I still have a lot of moments where I look in the mirror, or look down, and see the “old" me. It’s so bizarre, isn’t it?

I’m meeting with my surgeon next week and will be talking to him about my goal weight, but I imagine I still have about 45-55 lbs to go.  It’ll take me another 5-6 months to lose the rest of the weight, but I’m confident I will. I would love to hit goal before my birthday in November, but I’m not putting any pressure on myself for that to happen.

Finally…thank you all for your continuing help and support. OH has been a tremendous resource for me and I hope I can help pay it forward the way others did for me.

To anyone on the fence about this: Do your research, KNOW THYSELF & THY TRIGGERS, and go for it if you can swing it financially, psychologically, and emotionally. It’s definitely one heck of a ride, and my emotional food issues have not gone away, but this has still been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself.

Oh yeah…and check out the before and current pics!
