Two week pre-op diet.. Accidentally had caffeine!... Ack!

Sooo.. I was told no caffeine for two weeks before surgery... And I THOUGHT I was following that plan...

I've been drinking the crystal lite raspberry green tea like crazy, not even thinking it would have caffeine.. I thought it was just flavored to taste like green tea, nope.. It's got instant green tea in it! Yes, pretty stupid, isn't it? Have I just doomed myself?... Why exactly are we not suppose to have caffeine pre-surgery?..

I should also mention I am allowed decaf coffee with sugar free syrups and non fat milk.. My hubby went to Starbucks yesterday and got me a grande frappucino.. I guzzled half of it and realized the order sticker on the cup didn't say decaf.. So I asked hubby and he said, "I forgot"... I figured that little bit of caffeine would be oK to let slide.. But after this tea ordeal, I dunno?

I'm gonna cry if I screwed myself and have to do this liquid diet even longer and delay surgery...

Thanks!

I have my pre-op appointment with the surgeon tomorrow and I plan to fess up and see what he says.. Jeeze, this sucks!

I have 6 more days, so hopefully I will be alright.. Trust me, no more caffeine and I'm not even going to trust Starbucks anymore, ya never know if they will mess up anyways, I can tell if it's sugar free just by the tase, for sure.. But not if it's decaf or not.

You are not doomed.  Cafeine inhibits your body's ability to lose weight.  Unless you tell your doc he will never know.   So don't worry about it.  Best of luck with surgery!

Does it really? That's interesting.. I knew about the dehydration part.. And it can thin blood, possibly create ulcers, etc..

I think it will be Ok....they want you to be decaffeinated presurgery because it is a diuretic post op. I had caffeine up to 2 days before surgery.....it can make it a little dicey post op if you crave it....I didn't. It should not delay your surgery.

That's good to know..

I don't crave caffeine, thankfully! I can't take it or leave it.. I use to be bad about caffeine, thinking I need it. However, I broke that habit a few months back.

I had no restrictions on caffeine pre-op. I probably had 3 diet pepsis the day before surgery. I am alive and well :)

My doc didn't prohit caffeine.  His advise was to change your habits of pop before surgery so you don't want it after.

I'm sure you'll be just fine. My pre-op diet allowed black coffee, but not sodas bc of the caffiene....which
I think is more tO get yOu accustomed to drinking non carbonated things and drinking more water. 1 day before my surgery I had a huge diet dr. Pepper at the mall.
