Surgery Wed and so so scared..
Ok guys, i cant believe i finally get to say that my surgery is the day after tom. WOW!! I am a nervous mess.. My family is not for the surgery and they just put me on a bad head. They are making me fear every bit of this. I have 2 small children and i am a worrier. Anybody have some optomistic advice. I need that right about now. I am at 208. I gained 3 lbs since i started pre-op, not a good thing at all...i hope the doc has no problems being that i went up..and i am so unhappy at this weight. Before 2 years ago i could say i was never heavy and feel like i need to do this to get my life back on track..ok with that being said, Any post ops with their experiences and things that i need to expect. All who write back, its so appreciated.
I had some of the same thoughts as I have two small children, 7 months and 5 years, but I just kept telling myself that it was for them and they were all the motivation I needed and wanted to be here for al ong time for them. Just don't let anyone get you down and you will go to sleep and wake up a different person:)
Do me a favor - cut and paste a copy the message you just posted onto a piece of paper.
Then, below it...write down the reasons you wanted to have the surgery in the first place.
Put it somewhere you can see it. Tape it to the bathroom mirror, or some other visible location.
Every time you look at it tomorrow - remember that you're doing something for YOUR health. You are doing something to ensure that you are here for your children in the future as a parent should be - active and happy and involved in their lives.
And, after surgery, every time you look at it....think back at how nervous you were...and that you're past that scared point - and you're moved on to the exciting new chapter in your life!
It's not easy - I know. I am being sleeved exactly one week after your surgery - - and the 'negative thoughts' have gotten to me a time or two, also. (I know, I am not a post-op...but I am in the same boat you're in with regard to nerves, etc!)
But - think of it this way -- go into with an attitude that you're going to commit fully to this - - to the whole new lifestyle...and you're going to show your family by your example that WLS was the right decision for you.
If you need another pre-op friend, let me know - - I'll be here to visit and am happy to cheer you on! You're going to do great!!!

I have FOUR small kids and I felt exactly like you. I was sooo scared. Even after surgery the recovery was harder than I thought and I was regretting it all... THEN, something changed. I am 4 and a half months out and I can't even begin with how much my life has changed. My kids have a BETTER mom and although I am happy that I did this for me, Ia m even more happy that I did this for them. I have pics up on my fat site (link in signature) if you want to see the changes. YOU WILL BE FINE and you are making the BEST decision for you!

Sorry, I just had to respond although I'm not post-op...but I empathize with how you feel...Like you, my teeth are chattering and my knees are knocking (surgery date 11/7/2011)...but there is a reason we are going down this road. We are changing our lives for the better...don't look back, keep your eyes on the prize...good health and a great physique to go with it! We'll keep you in our prayers...please let us know how you are doing...
Do not eat pork rinds, or any dry foods. The got stuck in my gastric area and I thought I was having a heart attack; but it was not just spasms. LOL I love my sleeve, I lost most of my weight within the first 5 mos. Make sure you have sf applesauce to take any meds; cream soups low fat, yogurt, plain; juice dullite with water; zero water, snapple, sf pops, measuring cups/spoons. good luck.

I know that I am super late to respond but my surgery was 8/15 (it's 1 am here) and don't regret it at all. Even with the gas pain and feeling like I've done a million sit-ups, drain sticking out. I wouldn't change a thing. You look at your babies and remember why you're doing this. It's not about your family, it's about your kids and yourself. No one else. Keep that in mind and I wish a speedy recovery to you, hugs and prayers.
I have a 20-month old little boy and he is the reason I did this. I was 39 when I had him so being an "older" mom, I was already kind of behind the 8 ball. I want to make sure I'm around for him as long as possible, and the rate I was going, I wasn't going to be.
I'm sorry you don't have a great support system right now, but hopefully once your family sees that you'll do fine and once they see that you are feeling better, moving better, etc., they'll come around!
It's natural to be nervous about the surgery; I was! But you'll do great!!!
Good luck and keep us posted!!!
