I am in a bit of a quandry about Thanksgiving day.  I am having surgery on the 16th of November.  Thanksgiving with my husband and son would be interesting enough after my surgery but all my husband's (skinny) relatives are coming over and I really don't feel like telling them my biznez.  Anyone been there done that?  Oh I also have actually lied to my boss and told her I needed time off for a surgery due to complications with my diabetes type 2.  Now  I am wondering how long it will ta\ke her to figure out what I have actually done...My husbands family too.  Ughhh I really don't li\ke others knowing my business!!!

You don't have to tell anyone.
T-day: fake an upset stomach or headache and avoid dinner all together.
Your boss: depending on the relationship there, it's really nobody's biz what you do with your body.

When the weight starts melting off though, you may be so excited you want the world to know! I love talking about my sleeve!

Just play super host and keep busy being extra nice serving every one

Just kidding - you will not have very much energy and people may be able to look at you and see that somethings not quite right. Maybe come down with a little flu?

Im not really a fan of hiding the surgery because it complicates life far more than I could handle, but i understand why you might want to. Just remember to take care of you and relax.

Gotta think it through before you lie.....especially in business....It can bite you hard in the future....

Seen it happen..... they start doing backwards math and figure it out......

I can totally understand keeping it hush hush.......

All I can tell you is that it was much easier for me to be open about it..... got nothing but praise and encouragement...... just my take on it....

Probably easier to say you stomach is upset. Keep busy or sit and rest. They will assume your coming down with a little stomach bug. I am 11 days out and I still get a little pale in the afternoons when the tirednes****s. Just play it by ear and see how you feel and look.  As for your boss, I did not tell anyone at work either. I know how they are, all up in my business. I like to let them keep guessing. anyway good luck with the surgery... I wish you a speedy recovery... Take care of youself first not matter what. Then you can take care of everybody else.

I had my surgery the Monday before Thanksgiving day last year, but I shared with my family what was going on (also with work friends and bosses) so I didn't have to make excuses.  It was just easier for me that way.  I'm a big fan of the truth, however I understand your need for privacy.  Next year at this time, people will have put things together and one lie seems to just lead to another.  As for Turkey Day, I cooked the whole meal (with Mom's help) and served it up but didn't eat a thing.  That was not a problem.  If you don't want to tell them about your VSG yet, just say that you had a medical procedure and you are tired and not really hungry but are happy to sit with everyone and share the day.  This is the truth and when you're ready to tell, you will not have lied about it.  Congratulations on your decision to better your life and good luck!

I don't know what to tell you about T-day, b/c that close to my surgery I probably would not be having anyone at my house, BUT technically this surgery IS due to complications of diabetes, PREVENTING them that is, so really not an outright lie if they do figure it out.

While I am a big believer in honesty, I am also a big believer in MY Privacy so I also did not tell anyone (I did tell my family that I had surgery, but said it was for a hiatal hernia). If you have to have people over then I would just say that your stomach is upset and you cant eat (not really a lie, your stomach will be "upset" over being operated on), or say you had some other minor surgery. I have some very opinionated people in my life and I have always been very private about my medical issues.
About the boss - they legally cant ask you why you are having surgery so you have no reason to tell him. If you are on short term disability I dont think that they can tell your boss or anyone in your company what surgery you had - just that you had surgery and are out. Again, I feel strongly that your medical history is nobody's business but your own and you have the right to keep it private.

Good luck with Thanksgiving - I know it will be a hard day but it is just one day! Next Thanksgiving nobody will even remember that you didnt eat anything!
