Am I getting in too many calories with my protein drinks too fast

I understand your concerns.  My instruction sheet from the dietician says I should aim for 90 gms of protein.  To get this requires a lot of calories.  I'm also on full fluids, so some of that protein can come from food, of course, but over the last few days I've only managed about 40 gms of protein.  I add unflavored protein to drinks, food, etc.  It's 80 calories per 20 gms protein.   I know it's a goal, so we work towards it, but I,too, am interested in how people managed their first few weeks.

Hope you are healing well!

3 would give you (26 x 3) 78 grams of protein for (183 x 3) 549 calories.

I don't think you are including the protein from the milk and the info I find for skim milk is 83 calories/ 8.3 grams protein.

 ilex,

Thanks for your reply. Your right! I was not including grams of protein in Skim Plus!
This site is awesome! You have all helped me in many, many  ways!
BTW....should I keep my calories at a certain minimum?

This is what I have noticed in tracking my food.  If my calories for the day are 400, my carbs and protein come out about 40... 10% of my calorie intake. That is optimal for nutrition and weight loss. When you get further out and can consume 1000 to 1200 calories a day, your goal for protein should be at least 70g.

Try gnc wheybolic extreme. It's whey protein isolate and is 20 grams protein per scoop and 92 calories per scoop. I can do two scoops in 12 oz Almond milk. Makes it 40 grams protein, 244 calories and something like 6 carbs.

When I was six days out, my aim was 60 grams protein. I also had to do the protein shakes with water otherwise they were too rich and I'd get full reall fast and it took me forever to drink a shake. Using water instead of almond milk helped a lot. I could get a 12 oz shake down in about 30-45 minutes.

Also, at under two weeks out my surgeon emphasized fluid consumption more than protein. Just a thought.

I think I'm about 400 cal and 30-40 gms protein and I mix the protein in water ( crystal light or similar).  As the weeks go by, the higher protein and calorie count will come, and I definitely am losing weight.
I , also, appreciate this site immensely for the wise words and experience!!

I purchased some powdered milk or dry milk. You mix 1/3 cup with 8 oz water. It's 80 calories with 8 grams of  protein.  Then I mix Unjury Protein in it which has 100 calories and 20g protein.
That makes 28g protein per cup and 180 calories.
It's yummy!
