It's been about a year since surgery- 5x down to xl

Hi it's been about a year since my surgery.   Though I am not losing weight as fast as I was I am still losing.  I started out wearing a 5x and 64 inch waist last night at wal mart I bought an XL t shirt and tried on 44" waist pants.  Both fit perfectly.   I really had a hard time believing I can wear xl's now.  Soon it will be only a large!

Here is the pro's and cons of the last year:

Cons:

You never get over head hunger.  It requires discipline.
You must pay close attention to your diet and use common sense.
Lot's of loose skin.
a few items that affect me:
reflux
cramping
headaches
emotional roller coasters
Pychological: I can't see a change in the mirror even though I have lost nearly a 150 lbs and 4 clothe sizes.
Weight loss does not fix your life problems.
OH and the surgery does not restrict your ability to eat ice cream- as it's a liquid it just passes right thru your smaller stomach.  SO dont expect the sleeve to curb ice cream binges.
Some foods still can cause vomiting: such as heavy grease, or oily foods (deep fried stuff from McD's or Chinese buffets), sometimes corn meal,  sometimes really acidic drinks like orange juice.

Pros:

Weight loss (obviously)
More energy
more flexibility
increased stamina
increased libido
I don't diet- just eat good food when I'm hungry.
Learned to trust and use yogurts.
I was able to start exercising and manual labor again.
Started a furniture business.
Don't feel like a hypocrite when I have to preach about self control.

Anyway those are my thoughts I hope they help you.

I so agree with you on those pros and cons.  It is for sure a mental and physical journey and not an easy feat.

Congrats to you on your year out!!

Congratulations!  I'm nearly five months out and I'm starting to really deal with head hunger.  At first, food was an after thought but now, I will eat food that I shouldn't if it's near me.  Granted I can't eat the same volume but it's a struggle.

Thank you for being so honest!  It really helps pre-op people, I think.

Thanks for posting I was five months yesterday and head hunger is a killer. I hate that I still cant have the wrong foods in the house but nice to know I am not alone and it can be dealt with.
