Anyone have plastics and STILL not happy with their body?
VSG on 12/09/14
Good afternoon all,
I've been thinking and thinking about my whole weight loss journey. I haven't had the surgery yet, but as I read about so many people with skin issues I'm starting to believe that it will be inevitable. I will definitely do plastics if that is the case. However, I wonder if anyone lost weight, had plastic surgery, and still found their body unattractive or too saggy?
I've read so many posts of people complaining that their body looks worse after weight loss, but seems they did not do any plastics. Just wondering if everyone with plastic surgery ended up happy with the final results.
The weight is depressing me so much these days...that I'm getting worried that losing it might be even more depressing if my body ends up looking horrible from skin even after plastic surgery...
Everyones comments are welcome!!!!

Honestly once we abuse our bodies, even with plastics, we are not going to look like models. We will still have stretch marks and scars. I think a lot of how people feel post plastics depends a lot on their expectations going into it - if you expect perfection, you're aren't going to be satisfied.
I know even post plastics, my body will still have issues but I think I'll be okay with a great improvement.

I definitely agree it's about your expectations going into the plastics. We have all not treated our bodies perfectly and it would be far fetched that we would come out of all of this with perfect bodies. I am absolutely going to have the plastics done BUT for me this has nothing to do with how my body looks. It's about my health. Although I will not complain about the look part. Nice thing that will come along with my health.
If you have plastics, just like with WLS, its important to do your homework and find the right surgeon. Look at all of the surgeons websites. Every surgeon should have before and after photos. Many will have multiplpe sets at different stages of recovery (the stitches look good at first, then worse, then better).
Look for a surgeon who is completely up front with you about what needs to be done and WHY. If someone tries to soft sell you and tell you that you will be on top model after - they are most likely full of you know what.
That said, there are many wonderful surgeons out there. They are expert at how to place incisions and stitches to achieve the best result possible, but they cant fix everything. The surgeons I have talked to were plane spoken and made a few things very clear:
1. The scars will look worse before they look better
2. If you want to think about stitch placement, think of your skin as a suit of clothes. The way you would take in a sleeve is the way we would do the brachioplasty, etc.
3. Stretch marks are there, get over it
4. It will hurt. You will be given pain meds, but it will hurt. The surgeon I want to use wont do upper body and lower body at the same time. His logic is that you need that upper body pain free to help you while the lower heals and vice versa.

ok you say you have seen " people complaining that their body looks worse after weight loss"
I wanna know who these people are- cause I'll tell you what, I've got some skin issues and yeah they are kind of a bummer but ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!
I look a bazillion times better than I did 100# ago. There is NO WAY (if you are being realistic and have a normal sense of self) you will think you look worse after losing your weight. No way!
Just file these fears away, I saw a great quote the other day " Don't think too much or you'll create a problem that wasn't even there in the first place."
You have plenty to worry about- getting protein in, starting some exercise, heck- MAJOR surgery, to be worrying your pretty head about the 'maybe's', you know??

I was reading this blog which was on the home page and then I read the comments people posted underneath it. Seems like they almost regretted the weight loss because of skin issues...

Your body will show the life you have lived. I was a bit over 200 lbs when I had surgery (at 5"1). I was just over the line where I qualified;
After losing about 75 lbs, I have some rumples on my tummy, that can be taken care of by a good pair of hose. My chest is smaller than it was, and saggier, but nothing a water-bra can't cure. That said:
I have had 2 kids, and nursed each for a year. No matter how much I weighed, I would have body issues. I like the kids, I think they were a good trade, and I'm ok with that. My husband misses the "boobs of glory", but he is happy that I'm happy.
I look good. I feel good. Surgery was a success, and I am so much happier. Maybe some day I will have plastics, or get committed to a sit-ups regime, but it's not the priority for me. I don't know of ANYONE *****gretted the surgery because of skin issues....
