I am suppose to drink 60-75g of protein a day.  I am sipping out of a medicine cup, which takes me 30 minutes to consume. In the first few days, was anyone able to get this all of this down?  In addition to 48-64oz of water.  Please advise!!!

Lots of us struggle with getting everything in for the first several days, even into the first couple of weeks really. The first week or so, your primary focus needs to be to stay hydrated. If you can get some protein in, that's a bonus. Once the drinking gets to be more routine, then adding in the protein becomes more manageable.

Protein is important, don't get me wrong... but in the short-term, staying hydrated will keep you out of the ER in need of fluids, among other problems.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

I hear ya!  It'll get easier.  Every day you'll be surprised how much you improve, especially after the first few days.

Hi there,

I'm almost 2 weeks post-op & I also had trouble at first getting in all my protein & water. I worked on staying hydrated & I kept a water bottle with water & ice right beside me at all times & I would sip, sip, sip every chance I got, except for the rule of 30 mins before & after eating. I found that having it always with me really helped. Have you tried flavouring your water with things like Crystal Light or mixing it 50/50 with apple juice, for a change of taste? It might make it a bit easier to get it down for you. Best of luck!

 Thanks Deb,
It is not the taste that is bad, my stomach starts to growl and rumble after the first medicine cup of clear grape Isopure.  I will try to stay hydrated, I read that is most important....

My MD said not to try the vitamins for first 2 weeks- just bc it can increase nausea. Maybe try getting in small amts of protein and increasing that every few days   Don't b too hard on urself  u can do this

My stomach still growls and rumbles.  I just take a break and start again when it stops.  I hear that's very normal and may or may not go away.  Just take smaller sips than what you're doing now and see if that helps.  That's what I did.

I hope this helps.

Took me 10 days to finally get all 64 oz of fluids in.  It took another week or so before I was getting in my minimum protein.

It just takes time......your body has some MAJOR healing to do internally.  Give it the time it needs.

Where in CA are you located?  Do you attend any support groups?
