Your view, carb-wise, on fruit?

I am really starting to enjoy fruit and crave it.  Oranges, strawberries, apples, grapefruit etc.  But do fruits hold too many carbs?  How do you feel about this?

I guess it depends if this is daily and how much... but lots of carbs in general.

The more carbs you eat, the more you crave :(

For me, my carb sensitivity, and my plan- yes, too high. I had 2-3 strawberries once in a blue moon. Fruit is essentially natures little sugar bombs, aka candy. Nutrition wise, they don't hold a whole lot- if you compare them ounce for ounce with veggies.. even broccoli has more vit C than an orange.. and more fiber, and much higher nutrient density.. Does it taste sweet- no, but it's a much better bang for your sleeve room buck.

What's your carb target per day? Only you can answer if they have too many carbs.. but one apple is a whole day's carb allotment for me honestly. I still only eat fruit rarely, and it's the strawberries I grow. If you do go for fruit, you may want to look into which ones are the lowest on the glycemic index & load tables, and those are usually berries.

I personally run screaming away from it

During my weight loss phase I didn't really do any fruit. Too many carbs, too much sugar. If I didn't need it, it didn't go in my mouth because it was taking away valuable protein space.

In maintenance I'll have a few berries here or there, but that's about the extent of it.

Listen to Jo, only you can say what's right for you. If you're craving it, there may been something your body needs... Like vitamin c? But then again, I crave pretzels and I certainly I don't need those!

Too much simple sugar for me.  I saved fruits until I hit maintenance.

Ditto!  And even in maintenance I don't have fruit more than twice a day (usually only once) because of the continuous carb craving cycle it can put me in.

Who specifies what your carb intake should be?  I have a follow up with the dr and nut next week but I guess since I'm on 2 weeks of liquids after surgery they have not yet told me.   Just wondering.

The NUT at my surgeon's offce gave very specific guidelines--for this office, it's no more than 15-20 carbs per meal, 3 meals per day, 800-1000 calories, minimum 70-85 gr protein (that's a specific number for my needs, everyone is a bit different)

About once a month (for the last 2 months) I've let myself have a Chicken Strawberry Poppyseed salad from Panera.  I've made sure my carbs are super low the rest of the time so no fruit.  I also make sure I still keep my carbs under 60g on those days and both times I've made it my long run day, so it would normally be a higher carb day for me anyway.  It doesn't cause me to crave them and I just enjoy what I have, so I've allowed it to stay.  If eating one made me crave more I would stop.
