Tums are calcium carbonate and are notoriously known to cause rebound reflux. As for pepto, I have no idea, that stuff hasn't crossed my lips in decades.
When/if I get a stomach bug/diarrhea, I let it run it's course and dose up on probiotics and yogurt to even out my GI tract.

My surgeon actually doesn't recommend Tums. I am finding that there are some foods where I am having issues. My solution is if I know what I am going to eat I will take a Zantac 150 (actually the Walmart generic form) 1/2 hour before. Then if it still becomes an issue I will take the Walmart generic form of Gaviscon. This combination has not failed me yet.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I am 4 months out too and I was poping Tums and Pepto like they were candy!! Turns out that what I thought was gas was actually my appendix! I had emergency surgery to remove my appendix last week. Long story short, I can't really tell you if it worked or not since gas wasn't the issue! Sorry!

Thanks to all of you that answered. I don't take either often, but was wondering if I could. I see my nutritionist this coming Tuesday and can ask her then. Thanks again!
