I think it was day 12 that I broke down and cried because I couldn't eat pizza.  I'm day 17 now and seem to have turned a corner.  I'm able to get in enough protein that I don't have to drink the shakes, and I have more selection of the proteins approved my my nutritionist (soft low fat cheese, baby shrimp, crabmeat, finely chopped ground beef or turkey).  My mood has improved immensely.  Just hold on for a few more days.  It gets better.

One thing to remember is that your hormones are going to make you NUTS the first couple of weeks. I was all over the map - mostly kind of manic and Chatty Cathy to total strangers about having WLS surgery. lol

You will be able to eat more, trust me. I'm 6 weeks out and I'm eating "normal" food - just a whole heck of a lot less.

As time passes you'll find that going to the gym makes you feel satisfied and good, or being able to walk the dog regularly, or getting up in the morning and not feeling like you're lagging all day.

Get some support now - either through a WLS support group or a therapist. It will be really helpful for you during this transition.

Trust me, We have ALL been there.  For me, oddly enough, it helped watching the Food Network and the Cooking channel.  Can't tell you why - it just did.

What I found as I started eating again was that after surgery I oved food more.  Having gone through the liquid phase  and detoxing from the foods I had before I could taste the natural goodness in a wider variety of foods.  I had new favorites that I love now.  Green vegetables never tasted so good to me.

Now that I am in maintenance I haven't gone back to my old foods.  I am still with my new friends.

Take heart, you will eat again.  You will find that your tatse have changed in some places.  You will have a better relationship with a wider variety of foods.

Use the time you have now to work on your emotional attachments to food.  Analyze why you want to eat - what really motivates you.  As you get a healthy relationship with food, as odd as it sounds, you will enjoy food more once it is just fuel for your body.

I was the same a rhearob, I never watched food channels before surgery.  Once I had the surgery that's all I watch, especially Man v. Food.  I enjoy other people scarfing down large portions of food.  Sick, I know, but hey.  I tell everyone that thinks about this surgery is that it gets frustrating as hell, but its a life saver.
