Has anyone had a twisted stomach after the gastric slevve
I am 4 1/2 yrs post-op from gastric sleeve surgery.
I was recently told after I had an endoscopy that my stomach was twisted. I had never heard of that. The reason I had the endoscopy is because I have been suffering with excruciating abdominal pain. I also have a hiatal hernia.
I have been vomiting for the past 4 yrs because food gets stuck around the chest area inside so I have to throw up or else I will have a very bad discomfort in the chest.
Today my primary Dr. tells me that twisted stomachs cause vomiting but I did an endoscopy about 2 1/2 yrs ago but the Dr. never told me about the twisted stomach. The mayor problem I am having is that starting my 2nd year after my surgery I started gaining weight even with all the vomiting, I hardly keep anything down, and I do have hypothyroidism, and also my hormones are out of whack so I understand that has a lot to do with it, but still I don't understand how I could have gained about 60 lbs in 3 yrs because of that. Could the twisted stomach cause this weight gain because my small stomach is not doing its job?
Has anyone had this and if you have what were your results and what have your Dr's told you about it.
Hope anyone out there can give me some feedback because I am really concerned.
Thank you,
Maria
My first question is did you have concerns about vomiting regularly or did it become a concern after you began experiencing excruciating abdominal pain? I wonder if throwing up your food caused this? Then there first is the question of why your food seemed to be uncomfortable and seeming to stay in your chest.
I think I would have been super concerned from the get.
Sorry I don't have answers for you only questions. I wish you only the best.

Thank you for your concern and quick reply.
In response to your question, the first concern that my Doctor and I had was a leak after the surgery, so that was the main thing. But it was about a month or 2 later that I started with the vomiting.
I told my Doctor my problem and he said that because I had had gastric stapling surgery in 1987, he was not able to take out the clamp that was there because he had a lot of complications with this surgery because of excess scar tissue which took 1 1/2 hours to find my stomach because of the previous surgery.
He said in order to fix the problem of the food getting stuck he would have to operate again but I went through so much that I didn't want to risk my life anymore. But I have suffered with the vomiting for 4 years. My question is did the twisted stomach cause the vomiting or did the vomiting cause the twisted stomach.
I will be consulting tomorrow with a Bariatric surgeon about this because I cannot continue living like this.
I had an endoscopy to open my stomach with a balloon but that didn't work, so I don't know when this problem started.
But after 3 endoscopy's no Dr. ever told me I had a twisted stomach.
I did lose 175 lbs in 1 year but beginning the 2nd year I began gaining weight every week and I don't know why because I hardly eat as it is and mostly everything I eat I throw up. I have hypothyroidism and my hormones are out of whack because I am peri-menopausal.
My daughter feels that the weight gain is due to the gastric sleeve having a reverse effect of what the gastric sleeve surgery was supposed to do because of the twisted stomach.
I will update you all with the Dr's response so that if anyone out there has the same problem it may help them.
Thank you all for your concern and hope I have been able to answer your questions.

Maria,
if if you only knew I could relate and have a similar story. May 26th, 2012 I was picked up to take me to Florham Park Surgery Center. That day was suppose to be a smooth 1-2-3 operation of a gastric long sleeve. One day surgery and go straight back home.
After the surgery, I couldn't even function or say my name. The doctor than took me into the room there they could see the way stomach digested food/liquid with contrast. I instantly threw up and nearly fainted. I was admitted straight into the hospital. The look on my doctors face concerned me.
For the next 4 months I was in and out of the hospital- my doctor and his team, simply told us (family and I) "it is all in her head, she is not mentally stable or my body was in shock".
I knew none of it was true. No one ever had a solution for me. I than decided to have a second opinion. I threw up daily, sever acid reflux, no food would stay down, I lost 179 pounds total, people thought I was on drugs, my blood pressure constantly dangerously drops and more, I live life fighting.
This doctor Dr. Ballem and Dr. Rainville discovered I need my gall bladder removed and possibly conversion of sleeve to gastric bypass. I was too scared and after gall bladder removed I felt better.
I mi have lost several jobs because I was always sick and couldn't obtaij health insurance because when I had the chance through employers I would have to quit because of the hospital haven't to transport me constantly. I could afford of buying my own either because I couldn't work.
This is year my grandfather bought me health insurance and we were determined to get me better. Dr. Bellam and his team just discovered the sleeve was twisted severely and I have a mid-stomach gastric structure of 2 cm big.
I just oust got out of surgery, I am in the hospital and they have opened up my stomach removed stricture and now I have a normal sleeve. I hope this is end of my agony, pain, suffering and now time for a new life.
i hope someone else read this, knows that I KNOW and they are not alone.

I am now 4 1/2 years out and I have these exact same problems and I was just told that I will need to have a gastric bypass to fix the problems I am having. My bariatric doctor (not the same one who performed the sleeve) told me that the staple line was probably not done exactly straight which allowed the sleeve to twist.
