I'd stay away from clam chowder - I havent seen any that would be remotely close to healthy. The protein is usually pretty minimal and high in carbs/fat.

What Alison said, and the clams are chewey and rubbery, albeit very nutritious, hard on the tummy because you can't chew them to a paste.

I did canned clam chowder/milk once and strained it so it was just the liquid. Then I added "unflavored" protein powder to it. I'll just say that clam chowder liquid tastes nothing like it does with the stuff in it. Also, the protein powder tastes gross in everything. If you're dying for some soup during that phase, I did egg drop soup just to break the monotony (sp?).

Probably not the best choice but if you are really in the mood for Clam Chowder. You can purchase @ Sam's Club
Legal Sea Food New England Clam Chowder and the puree' it in a blender.
Stats:  290 cal / 20 gr fat / 17gr carb / 11 g prot for 1 cup.

I doubt you could eat an entire cup @ full liquid stage so you could probably make stats work in ur plan (as something to do RARELY)

It is really YUMMY!

Another option (that I've done 1x .. again not best choice) but super Yummy! Was Longhorns Shrimp and Lobster Chowder.

1 serving ... Cal 250, fat 10, carb 31 , prot 9... ( WAY HIGH IN CARB) But no way to eat whole serving. I actually ate it out w/ customer's before realizing the carb count and haven't had since. I ate basically broth part and brought remainder home to puree'.

I originally read your post and thought, "no way" clam chowder is just not on my program".  Then I proceeded to tell my husband about your post and he had an idea moment.  He is right now in the kitchen "putting something together to surprise me".  I think he is concocting a healthy version of the soup.  I will let you know how it turns out and if I like it, will post the recipe on my profile.
