I am 2 weeks post op with gnarly acid reflux.  I am on Zantac and Dr just added a PPI today. Do ou think this is a long term side effect?

Too early to tell for you, but I think most surgeons prescribe something for the first six weeks. Lots of folks only need it in thearly phase, but lots more need one ongoing.  I had reflux before, so no surprise that I cannot manage without it.  However, there are plenty of folks who didn't have reflux before but have it after surgery.

In almost 5 months it has not gotten any better for me. If I don't take my meds. for it everyday I feel like I am about to kill over.

Good morning, I just read your brief post on acid reflux.  I had my VSG surgery on Nov 26.13, I have been on PPI's since week 4.  First it was nexium (once a day) and then I was switched to protonix (twice a day).  I am just past the five month mark and I still have ongoing issues with the reflux and foam, having to spit up or throw up a small bit on most days.  My question, has your acid reflux improved at all?  Are you still on PPI's? a thanks in advance for your reply.
