Cold sore

I am 12 days post-op and I have the worst cold sore I've ever had in my life on my lower lip.  I'm trying to figure out what caused this... I guess it could be from the stress on my body from surgery... I read somewhere that it could be from cracked lips and/or the anesthesia from surgery.  I hate this stupid cold sore.... anybody else get one after surgery??

I saw a post yesterday that said Vitamin B12 took care of her cracked lips...maybe that could help?

I will try it...  I can't swallow big pills yet though... maybe I'll call my doctor.

You can get B12, as a lozenge. Super convenient!

I get them once a year , use Carmex on your lips for the next week it helps a great deal ... Also Abrivia , the little tube is pricey but well worth it ! Use both of them and you will be golden !

Stress and dry lips always brings a cold sore on for me . I have learned that carmex and abriva work the best . Good luck !

I've never had one this bad.. half of my lip is swollen... looks like I've been punched in the mouth.  I've been putting Campho Phenique on it to dry it out... Usually, if I do that at the first sign, it doesn't get bad, but this time it didn't help. Ugh.   I called and left a message with my doctor just now.

Good call , with it being so large It's good you called your doctor. Keep us posted on your progress and I hope your lip gets better soon !

Ask your MD for a RX for Denavir. It's a cream. It's a great help. I've been plagued with them since childhood.

The nurse called back. She said that it's not a "common" thing after surgery but my immune system is probably low and that's what caused it. She said for me to go to my family physician... which I can't do because we have 6 inches of snow.  I'll just use the campho phenique until it goes away. 

I got one about 3 weeks ago.  I use Abrevia when I do get them and it really helps.
