Almost six months since surgery. I find I can eat up to six ounces of meat and veg at one sitting, and its starting to freak me out.

So far I've counted on my sleeve to give me a signal when it was time to stop-- a tightening in my chest. I immediately put the fork down when I feel that sensation.

Well, I haven't felt it in a few days. I'm scared I'm going to stretch my sleeve out. I will order a food scale to measure my portions.

What is a good amount to eat for one meal at six months out? What are you eating?

Is it possible TOM is coming up? I know for me around 6 months out I was able to eat like a freaking horse & it scared the crap out of me. It didn't happen very often but I could eat about 5-6oz. of chicken in 1 sitting. It would only last a few days & then I got my visitor. A lot of women complain about eating like a bottomless pit around this time.

Hi Jenn--

Interesting point. It happens to be my TOM right now. Maybe that is what is going on. I can usually only tolerate a couple of ounces of chicken, but today I felt like eating like, a whole chicken breast.

Maybe I'm not totally off my rocker (or my plan).

Your sleeve has now matured, congratulations.  :)

I am only half kidding, this is the normal process that I keep telling people about.  It is really hard to understand and believe until you go through it yourself.  The first six months are different, because our sleeve is still swollen and has not matured yet.  Somewhere in the 6-8 month window, most of us experience what you are talking about and it happens again around the one year to 18 month mark. Then, we more or less live with what we have.

You will now need to measure your food using a measuring cup.  Your stomach does not have a scale, so it's a bit silly to use one.  The capacity is what is important here.  I would tell you to eat about 3/4 of a cup of food at a time, one full cup if it's something like soup or chili.  Welcome to the new normal.

Hi Elina,

So I should get measuring cups and not a scale? Thats good because cups are cheaper than scales. :)

I suppose I should have expected my capacity to increase as my sleeve healed. It will take some time to get used to this "new normal" as you say. It is going to be more work to achieve success now.

Thanks.
