Would like to get your feed back...
I am 120 days out plus almost a week...
My doc just sent me this...
Just wondering what you think!!!

Diet info from doc.

A diet consisting of:
600- 800 calories per day
70-75 grams of protein per day
40-60 grams of carbs per day
20-30 grams of fat per day

1 gr of protein = 4kcal
1 gr of carbs = 4 kcal
1 gr of fat = 9 kcal

The primary source of nutrition should be protein:
75 gr of protein x 4 = 300 calories of your diet should come from protein ( 300 x100/800 = 37.5 % )
60 gr of carbs x 4 = 240 calories of your diet should come from carbs ( 240 x 100/800 = 30% )
28.9 gr of fat x 9 = 260.1 calories of your diet should come from fat ( 260.1 x 100/800 = 32.5% )

37.5 % protein
30.0 % carbs
32.5 % fat

100 % DIET

I flipping LOVE this!!!

I would lower the percent for carbs and maybe up the fat because my body is more carb sensitive then fat.

I agree. This is EXACTLY what people want to know.  For me, I keep the carbs between 20-40 as well because I know that they trigger cravings for me.  In their place, I usually have a little more healthy fat.

I agree with Ms. Shell on lowering the carbs a bit more & maybe up the fat a little.  I think some of the vets would encourage VSGers a little earlier out to stay on the lower calorie range of 600 & even aim for 80-100 grams of protein but I still think 70-75 grams of protein is great!!!

Overall, it is a good plan. However, I would lower the carbs to under 40 and increase the protein to over 80 grams.  Otherwise, it is spot on.

This is close to how I have lost 5 lbs a week (average) for the last 10 weeks (7 weeks post op) and the same percentages for my 3 week pre-op diet with higher protein in my day...

Those stats are almost bang on for my clinic also FYI.

I actially aim a tad higher in my protein (ideal for me is 80-90 with 90 being my goal), and occasionally go to 35 g fat... My carbs flux from 30-65/day but my higher carb day is my lower fat day and I cycle it so I am not always using the exact same numbers.

I actually aim for 90-60-30. Which works out to 40%-30%-30%. Protein - carbs - fat. Works out to 870 calories on a perfect day.

I actually spoke to my GP today about carbs. She's an interesting GP because she's had many clinical trials, etc. run through her office... She said that for me going too low carb (under 40) may be bad because I am very active and losing with what I am doing.

Who's your surgeon? that is very thoughtful of him to give those parameters, wondering why did he send you this plan NOW? are you not losing because of his post surgical diet plan you got already? sorry I don't see signatures...but 120 says out thats what 4 months

This plan he sent you IS...kinda close to this forums sponsor's daily dietary plan whi*****ludes

no more than 800 cals every day your first year ....or.... until you reach goal

the protein is higher tho...90 grams

carbs always under 40 total NOT net...post op one year never more than 60gs

fats never more than 30g ever"

I don't/won't/couldn't follow my surgeons post op plan either!

In maintenance I consume 1100 cals on average each day. Some days way more...some days much much less. I don't diet for weight loss anymore

I get MAJORITY of my daily protein, fats ...from complex carbs. I can't/won't/don't... do animal as much as I used to.  Can't even remember the last time I had an egg! HA!

I like your surgeon's thoughfulness! He's a keeper ,-)

That's a pretty typical recommendation and close to what my program does. I would keep carbs to no more than 40 g so you can up the protein though. 70-90 g of protein is a good starting point for many. You can adjust from there.

Typically. I stay under 20 carbs ....same with fat but I am becoming more active ...a lot mmore and I want to make sure

that I up my carbs if I need too.

the surgeon I used IS truly amazing and says that 98%

of his clients loose 100 pounds plus with in the first year... If they follow his guidelines!!!

I can see that being true.  His program is pretty typical of a certain philosophy and I bet he makes a great sleeve too.
