Pre-op for VSG

Hi all,

I am planning on having the VSG sometime in the next few months.

I started this journey three years ago and went through the entire process with a surgical group near me. Something didn't feel right... they had not done enough of the procedures.. I finally decided that I had to listen to my gut and I bailed.  Thought I would try to lose weight without surgery, but instead have gained.

So now I am going to a hospital in Boston and working with a surgeon who has done 1200 or more of these procedures.  (Not so many of the VSGs since they're fairly new... more like 100 of them.)

I met with the surgeon and psych and they were great. Met with the dietician yesterday and found her dry and humorless. She got through her 1 hour presentation in 40 minutes.. when she asked if there were questions, and I asked one, she tightened her lips and gave a heavy sigh. Obviously not all that interested in answering questions.

Anyway. I'm working on my pre-op weight loss and trying not to be too terrified. Frankly, the dietician scared me badly.

If it were me, and if it was an option, I might shop around for a different bariatric team - you want a surgeon that has great skills as it relates to the actually sleeve and not just general surgery. And you want a team that will support you 100% if you can find one - both from the surgeon and dietician. Trust me, I had/have zero support from my surgeon and HMO in general -their "dietician" gave me a food pyramid to follow at 6 weeks post op. You should expect more than that.

This surgeon has done over 100 sleeves, so I feel good about his skills -- and over 1200 bariatric surgeries. Also, I just liked him. I liked his no-nonsense approach.

It was only the dietician I didn't love, and they have a bunch of them. I'll just try to get another one.

So sorry to hear that your dietician was a buzz kill! I understand how you feel. You should be proud that you didn't let her *****ly demeanor stop you from asking what I'm sure was an important question! It's her job and she shouldn't be so uninterested!

OH is a great place to find your answers to your questions. Hang in there!

Brigham & Women's. I have friends there and they recommended Dr. Robinson.

I'm going to try to get one of the other dieticians. I mean, this one was fine, but I suspect she's getting tired of her job.... should move on to something else.
