Is low blood pressure common after VSG?

I keep getting light-headed whenever I stand up from sitting or laying down. I'm drinking enough water (although probably the minimum).  My protein intake hasn't been up to par, though. Perhaps that's the reason???

They had me stop taking my BP meds as soon as I left the hospital after surgery.   I still get light headed when I stand up as well.  I think it's just the way my body is dealing with the changes I'm making.

I had normal blood pressure at 345lbs...when I lost it became LOW.  I added salt back into my diet and now my pressure is back in a normal range...still a little low.

Did you have pressure issues that required medicine?

Nope. No BP issues before. It was slightly higher than normal before surgery, but my doctors were never concerned. No meds.

I'm thinking it may be low glucose now since I took my BP and it was fine. May need to employ the Accu-Chek.  :)

Are you sure this is your blood pressure?  Have you checked?  Low blood sugar will make you get dizzy.  I get dizzy sometimes and I'll check my sugar it will be at 68.  I guess that's too low for me even though I doing think that's low at all.  Go to the doctor and get checked...ask for a blood sugar meter because it could be that.  The blood sugar thing you can avoid by eating six times a day.  I know it's not what you want to be doing but it's what I have to do...or I get dizzy.

I actually went out and bought a BP reader at Walgreens (it was on sale for $25)...and my BP was fine: 119/79. So, that got me thinking that it's my blood sugar.  I have an Accu-Chek (I had gestational diabetes) but no more test strips, which are EXPENSIVE!  Maybe I'll go in to the doctor tomorrow and have them prescribe some strips so my insurance can pay for them.  LOL!  Meanwhile, when I've felt faint I've been drinking a little juice or eating something -- seems to help a little.  But, yeah...my eating schedule is not on point.  So, I need to work on that.

Thanks for the suggestions.  :)

I actually read a book recently that addresses this issue. Low carb diets, in particular, cause a drop in BP because the body excretes sodium and water much more efficiently when we're in ketosis. The "fix" is to make sure you're getting plenty of water and also add SALT to the diet, believe it or not.
