Back on track after a BABY :)

I will be 2 years post op July 21... In the beginning I was 315lbs, and my lowest was 177!  I had started to get to my new "normal" and my body was hovering right around 185lbs without much effort, though I was planning to refocus and try to get down to my goal of 175 and see if I could do any better... I lost 66lbs before surgery doing low carb... I have PCOS and am CRAZY carb sensitive... even post VSG I must be very aware of carbs... like hyper aware...

I had dealt with infertility for years with my ex... and we have an amazing adopted daughter.  I got divorced 2 years ago (lots of issues, one of which was that he was not supportive at all about me wanting WLS).  With my history my boy friend and I figured we'd be lucky to get pregnant on our own and decided to go ahead and start the "year of trying" so that we could move on to fertility options around this time right now (spring 2013).............. SURPRISE! 2 months after we started "trying" I was pregnant!  Our son was born 3 weeks ago and I  couldn't be more happy!

I had a super easy and healthy pregnancy (I turned 32 while pregnant)... only real issue was that I was anemic and that resolved with just supplements.  He was born via Stat C-section (not VSG related at all... his heart rate dropped... turned out the cord was around his neck THREE TIMES! very scary but luckily he was just fine... they got him out in under 10 minutes... they had to knock me out though, I had made it to 8 cm going all natural and there was NO time for an epidural or spinal).  He was 8lbs 7oz... so he grew just fine :)

I didn't do nearly as well as I should have with nutrition while I was pregnant... I knew I had to up my carbs and actually saw a nutritionist to make sure I was doing what was best for him.  My goal was to basically follow a less strict gestational diabetes diet because it is healthy for the baby and mom and lower carb but safe for the baby.  Once I break about 60g net carbs a day the carb monster takes over for me... I have learned it about myself, I wish I could fight it better, but I know that the best for me is to keep it under 60g... they wanted me no lower that 150g... pretty quickly I ended up eating pretty much whatever I wanted and old habits slid in.  I gained 47lbs.  The doctors weren't worried at all, but I knew it wasn't what I needed for him, it was my poor choices... I would have happily gained 100lbs if I was eating well and that's what had to happen...  I am happy that days after giving birth I was still a little over 100lbs less than my highest... though it was hard to watch the scale go back over 200... worth it, but still hard...

SOOOOO... I am working hard to get back on track.  I can't do much but walk right now due to the c-section... they want me to take it easy for the 8 weeks, but as far as food choices I am back on the wagon.  It's harder than I thought though... it takes more time to actually MAKE something and not grab convince food (like a granola bar, or cookies, or a bowl of cereal) during the day when I am busy with the baby...

Sadly with my PCOS my milk never really came in (like when I would pump I would get one half of an oz once I combined what I got from BOTH sides, and he was drinking 2-3 oz a feeding) so I have to use formula... I guess there is about a 30% chance that can happen with PCOS... I was upset, but have decided to focus on being happy that I was even able to get pregnant!  But for eating my milk supply isn't an issue...

I would LOVE any encouragement or tips!!!!!

Best of luck on your journey!!!

Your best bet is to do MASS cooking like Sunday or a day when hubby is around and you can dedicate the time to cook so you can have food on tap.  I regained NOT baby related and it's taken 2 years for me to realize I NEED to always have something handy I can eat.

Congratulations on the baby!!

So, where are the pictures?   enlightened

Congrats on the bouncing baby boy!  Hey, you did what you needed to for a healthy baby.  Now you can get back to concentrating on a healthy YOU.  I'm with MsShell.  I always have a "safe" food sitting in the pantry/fridge that I can grab when I'm on the run.  Best to you!

Congrats on the baby, and IMO 47 pounds is not bad at all. BUT make sure you get back on the HORSE now so that the 47 does not turn into 100!!

You can do it!
