Do any of you have Aetna?  How long did the approval process take?  My 6 months supervised diet won't be complete until December 2nd, and I would LOVE to have surgery in late December (since I will already have two vaca days).

I have AETNA (love them btw).  My approval was fast, like 2 days. It was scheduling the surgery with the surgeon's office  that took so long (about 5 weeks).  To give you some perspective.  I started my 6 months supervised diet Sept 20, last apptmt was Feb 5 and surgery was March 11.  Good luck to you!

Thanks so much for responding! Did you submit your paperwork before you'd completed the 6 months, or did you do it after? I read that you can submit for pre certification prior to the 6 months

Aetna is different every where. I only had to do a 3 month supervised diet. You really can't compare Aetna plans since they are all set up differently

The Aetna prereqs for surgery are all the same, regardless of plans (spoke to them today).

Kelly, I also have the option of the 3 month supervised diet, but I read on their policy bulletin that I need to have an exercise regimen monitored by a professional. Did you do this? Was it like a personal trainer or what?

When I had surgery, I had Aetna.  My approval took 2 business days (they requested on Friday at 11am and received approval on Monday afternoon around 3:30pm).

My surgeon put me on the schedule for surgery before I actually got approval because he knew how fast Aetna approved things and that I met all the requirements.

How many years back did you have to be obese? My BMI is 40 now but has been in the 30's for the last couple years!

The tricky part will actually probably be scheduling with your surgeon. I got approved in mid December last year, but all the surgery dates before the end of the year had already been taken. Check with your surgeon to see if they can tentatively schedule you pending insurance approval.
