Messages we tell ourselves...and new respect for food
Happy Sunday All!
So for the first time in my journey I'm trying something a bit controversial. When I saw my surgeon last week, as I said before, he was thrilled at my progress and felt I was ahead of the game in # lost.
We talked of many things, including my excercise program ( which he was very pleased with)...and I asked how can boost my weight loss during a stall. He said he said that once eveyr other month I can do a week of PROPER protein shakes ...and shakes only. He was very insistant that I should not do this for more than a week, and to make sure I got enough calories in.
So I took it on and Friday I started my 7 days of Prot shakes for all meals. I had no problem immediately post op with liq diet...so I thought it would be a breeze. NO WAY! This is the toughest thing I've had to do! The gas! The head hunger! The want to chew!...But this is also a GREAT test or my endurance...a test of my mental state to cope with what I WANT...and what I have PLANNED.
I'm sticking with it. Lost 5 # in just 3 days so far...but this is not easy. The cool part...I've fine tuned my self supportive talk. Strengthened my resolve that I will do whatever it takes to get to my goal...and the fact that this is warranted, with caution, by my Doc helps me to know that doing this is OK.
I keep saying..."one more shake today...then today is over...you CAN and WILL do this"...then I do it. I'll be honest...Friday seems so far away...but I believe I will have an even better respect for food and the process when I get there. One day at a time.
I'm white knuckling...and I'm getting it done.
Have a great day all!
Peace
~Deb
My surgeon's overall plan is different than most here...but when it comes to shakes...he's pretty basic; what he wants is high protein, low sugar, low carb, low fat. Lots of shakes look good...but reading the stats make them less than what my Doc likes.
I'm not supposed to eat too little, and with excercise I have to listen to my body for REAL hunger. If I do experience real hunger, I have a 1/2 shake serving to hold me, or hot tea black. Not easy...but I'm getting it done.
