Reflux again (question)
Bypass is still considered the best surgery for patients who already have reflux because it typically "cures" reflux, whereas VSG can cause reflux or make reflux worse, or maybe also help reflux -- but the reflux outcome varies widely.
My GI doc recommended bypass, but understood my reasons for not wanting it. He also said that it can still typically be treated post VSG.
My VSG doc would not commit to VSG until after all of my upper GI results were in because he wanted to see what kind of reflux, what damage, if any was already there, etc.
There was a lot of reflux with very small sleeves in the early days, apparently. So the skill of the surgeon and the size of the sleeve definitely have an impact on post op reflux.
