C25K - Progress (NSV)

It's not much, but I am still amazed at the progress I've made...

For those not familiar with the C25K (Couch to 5K) program, you warm up with a 5 min walk, run for 60 sec, walk for 90 sec and continue alternating that for 20 minutes and then finish with a 5 min cool down...as you progress through the program, you begin to run more than you walk and after the 8 weeks, you should be able to complete a 5K...without dying!  Lots of different apps available as well as podcasts with music and prompts to tell you when to move to the next phase. Also, I am repeating a couple of weeks, just my personal preference...

Day 1 - can only run 15 seconds (out of 60) each time (at best) going 2.8 mph...walked the rest...

Day 2 - can only run 30-40 seconds each time, going 2.8 mph...walked the rest

Day 3 - ran almost the full 60 seconds each time (more like 50), going 3 mph...walked the rest

Day 4 - ran the full 60 seconds each time, going 3-3.4 mph....WHOO HOO!!!!!

Just that little progress is huge for me...bring on the 5K in October....

That's AWESOME!  I can't run at all yet, but maybe when I loose about 50 pounds or so I will feel more comfortable with it.

I've only lost 33 lbs...battling the TOM monster, but i'm almost 5 weeks post-op...but I never thought I would be able to run either..even 60 seconds is huge...baby steps for this girl!

Being a C25K graduate I can tell you that you will absolutely be able to run a 5K when you are done. I have never been a runner. I actually hate running but because of C25k, I have run five 5Ks and I run 2 to 3 miles 3 to 4 times a week.

I did have to repeat week 3 and I think week 5 twice.

Same here, I have never been able to run, even when I was younger but I plan on continuing running for life...5Ks (quite a few), then hopefully a 10K...I am so amazed at just the little bit of progress in 4 days....I wanted to quit after day 1...so glad I didn't!!

The more weight you lose, the more enjoyable it becomes. i will tell you this though, look for something to bind your stomach when you run. When you get down far enought to where your gut losens up it will start to smack and clap and its a bit uncomfortable. I have a waist trimmer I got from Dicks Sporting Goods to hold everyhting in place. i also have a couple pairs of compression shorts, this keeps your thighs from rubbing together or smacking too.

I think we are ALL warriors! I just hope someone will read my post and realize, maybe I can do it too...I really did not think I would be able to do day 2, 3 or 4...and now I am repeating week 1 again...who knows what progress I will see...

What are your thoughts on doing this in a pool? Wonder if it would work, I am by no means ready for this on land
