This is going to be a struggle for me. I have 2 kids 4 n 9 years old and my husband works full time and goes to school and my kids are constantly... I'm hungry. My husband burns water boiling it so unless everyone goes hungry how do people deal with this? When food is an OBVEOUS trigger being constantly reminded by cooking for people will be a major challenge everyday for me. That's like an alcoholic going to the bar every day. Tough

I am a week outside of VSG.  For the first couple of days my husband cooked for himself and our daughter, but then I saw he was working so hard to take care of the kiddo and keeping her occupied and then he went back to work.  I started cooking 4 days after surgery for them.  It is not as hard as I thought it would be, and of course there were some things that I made for them that would make good purees for me.  I have already frozen a few things I can eat on the puree part of my diet.  I would suggest to you, if your husband cannot be trusted in the kitchen or at a grill is to make a few things up and put them in the freezer. That way all that has to be done is pulling it out.  I also loaded my fridge with things my kiddo could get herself and eat as snacks.  She is almost 6.

Trust me... it's not as hard as you think it will be.  For one.. you're simply not gonna be hungry like you used to be.  I have a 5 and 8 year old and a husband who also works fulltime and goes to school full time.  I still make family style meals on the nights he's home... I make sure there's something in there that I can have that is part of the family meal.  On night's he's not home,  I generally do left overs (trust me, there's a lot more left overs than there used to be) or a light meal for the kids and I.

As far as foods for the kids (IE- snacks) I have a personal hands off policy.  I don't touch their foods.... EVER.  I keep plenty of VSG friendly snacks on hand.  This way, if the snack monster attacks me, I have several options to choose from that fall in line with my plan.  No fuss, no muss, no guilt.  And when in doubt... grab a bottle of water instead.

You can do this.  It's time to appreciate a new relationship with food.  Why go through all the pain of surgery to ruin it?  You have been given a gift, appreciate it. :)

You have to learn to deal with it.........

Not saying it is easy or fair...... it's what you have.......

Learn to separate some of your ingredients prior to cooking and make your 3-4oz. of food.

Say your making Spaghetti and meatballs for the family...... your eating a meatball with a little sauce.....

Say your making burgers for the family...... yours is without bread.....

Say your making tacos...... yours is in lettuce rather than a tortilla.....

Check out my Cafe Frisco Blog at LapSF.com

It is geared for simple single VSG friendly meals.....

Once you are on the puréed/Mushie stage make sure you sit at the table w them and use a smaller plate.....and then look at the amounts they are eating. It looks like it could feed a small country.....my husband who is 6 feet tall and 165 lbs took my daughter and her friend out for breakfast and dinner the first few days( nothing expensive...just Pizza Hut and Denny's) then a few nights later we sat down and he ate 2 Hoffman hot dogs and a kielbasa link, white rice, and fresh fruit ( dogs w hot dog rolls!)  I was almost sick to my stomach watching him.....then a few hrs later he was in excruciating pain...gee ya think! He took some of my gas medication and I told him to walk it off and the gas will move.....it was kind of comical because he was in worse gas pain than I was after my surgery....tee heeee.....Good Luck!
