Out of the hospital yesterday

I had surgery Tuesday and can't get hardly anything in. I got out of the hospital yesterday and slept pretty much all night last night from about 5 pm til this morning. I feel like I'm not gonna get enough in to survive. Anyone else have this feeling the first week? I don't do pain well and it hurts to sit, hurts to try to eat. It's gonna be a long journey.

I promise it gets better.  My first week I slept and moped in bed, so mad at what I had done to myself.  I was barely getting anything in, and thought surely it would be the death of me.

Yet, here I am, 6.5 months later, feeling better than I ever have.  You will get there.  The pain will subside, your stomach will un-swell, and you will adjust to your new normal.  This board is immensely helpful to inspire and keep you motivated.  Best of luck to ya!

Welcome back, Joy!  Take it easy your first week and rest and drink.  That's all you need to focus on right now.  And like everyone else will tell you....IT REALLY DOES GET BETTER!

Yes, all normal. Hang in there! Most important thing is to stay hydrated. There were some days I could only get a couple of ounces of water down. It gets better.

it is normal but get up and walk it will help with the pain and take your pain meds, if they don't help call your surgeon and have them changed for others that will work,

you need to drink , try different temps

try broth  or herb tea , jello, some people do better with ice water

the hard p[art will be over in a few days

Everyone is right...it gets better!  I am 1 week and 1 day post surgery.  I stuck to my surgeon's/nutritionist's guidelines.  clear liquids days 1-4 post surgery, full liquids 5-7...and today? I had a pureed scrambled egg (used broth to puree helped flavor) and applesauce.

For the first few days, it really helped me to keep a water bottle near me and sip every 5-10 minutes.  just a sip, enough to wet my mouth and maybe swallow a bit.  i also made sure i incorporated diluted juice and popsicles.   Just sip..don't gulp and if it hurst goin

I needed to shoot for 64 ounces, but in my packet, it says that if I only got to 40 ounces, it was ok for a short time.  I made sure I got up and walked around every day and I even got outside and walked a few houses each way.

I can say today is the first day I have felt really good. I felt good in the hospital, but as the toradol wore off my stomach started to hurt.  I had pain standing up from sitting/laying down, but not while laying or standing.  Today, the pain seems to be subsiding.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you need to take each day one at a time.  Your recovery will be different from everyone's.  But know that you will feel better.

OH...and hold a pillow to your stomach when you stand up or roll over.  it will give your tummy support and help the pain.

It gets better, give it a full week and perhaps a few days longer.

Stay hydrated and get the protein per instructions.

Don't worry about getting in enough to survive if you're talking about food.  Your body stored up all that extra energy (aka fat) "for a rainy day" or the lean times.  Well, your rainy day has finally come and now you get to use up all that extra energy.  Fortunately for us the side effect is weight loss LOL.

However, you do have to stay hydrated and get your protein in or other not so nice things could happen.

Hi, I've been lurking for a bit. I also had my sleeve done on Tuesday. I feel like you. Drinking water is a chore so you know what everything else feels like. I can really relate to you in terms of where we are in our journey.

I hope you feel better. The first day waking up I felt like I had been hit by a semi truck. Starting to feel a LITTLE better. I didn't feel like people talked on this site about how much pain it would be. Good luck in feeling better. Cheers to getting ur protein and water in!

Everyone's pain levels and tolerances are different so what may hurt like a mofo for one person may only be a 2 or 3 on the pain scale for soneone else. Also, perhaps pain isn't discussed so much because we don't want to scare people off from choosing this procedure just because it's going to hurt a bit--it's major surgery! The pain of surgery is temporary compared to the aches and pains of remaining morbidly obese. It gets better every day and you will feel better as time goes by.
