I have very low iron and am currently taking Natures Bounty Iron, ferrus gloconate, 28 mg pills.....hope it helps my next lab workup, which is in about 3 months.....

however, even with taking Miralax everyday, it's still hard on the plumbing...does anyone have a more gentle product for iron?  would taking a liquid be easier on my system?

thanks for any info!

I myself have low iron and I do take a supplement for it. I take "Nature Made Iron 65 mg Equivalent to 325 mg Ferrous Sulfate". The tablet is small (size of my pinky tip), I take two tablets with one chewable vitamin C 500 mg tablet. It's easy on my system, everyone is different.

Sorry to hear what you're going through. I wish you the best.

I take Vitalady's Tender Iron.  It's carbonyl iron, not ferrus.  Carbonyl is usually easier on the gut.

I use iron carbonyl as well -- easy on the stomach, but I still used Miralax.

Ferrous gluconate or carbonyl are both very easy on the stomach, but they will both constipated you. Sadly, all iron supplements are "binding". As long as you drink plenty of water and you are cleared for daily Miralax by your doc, you're pretty much doing the bet you can invent the situation.

oops! didn't know I should be "cleared" for miralax....I'll get on that!  thanks!

I was afraid that would be the answer, that all iron is rough....however, I will look into the vitamin C at same time.  I know not to take with other supplements.  Will up the water too.

thank you all!!

My program (Kaiser Fremont) recommends Ferrimin 150. I took it for the first few months after surgery. It contains a dose of Docusate Sodium (generic Colace), which is a stool softener. I couldn't find it locally and I ordered it from http://www.dialyvite.net/ferrimin150.html

Here's some tips about taking Iron from Kaiser's Vitamin Guide:

HELPS absorption: Vitamin C 500mg. NOT Orange juice.  PREVENTS absorption: Tea, Meals, Multivitamin,Calcium. Take 2 hrs APART from these.    Lynda
