Ferritin a 1...IV Iron Infusions

Last Wednesday I had a blood transfusion...received two units of blood. Feel tons better, it stopped my symptoms of fever, shortness of breath..heart palpitations and fainting. I still feel weak though.  Went to see the hematologist today to go over the lab work they did right before my blood transfusion.

My ferritin is at 1...my actual iron is 11. Not good. They want to start me on IV Iron Infusions for the next 8 wks.  I have no job, no insurance..but i applied for community benefits (hoping they pick up the cost).  They won't schedule me for the Infusions until i get that approval. Keeping my fingers crossed for an approval..if not..i don't know what will happen. I don't have the money to pay myself, and no insurance..and they won't do the infusions without either of those. Very scared right now...

Take your pills everyone..don't get behind...

Glad to hear that the two units of blood helped you out.

I myslef take two tablets of "Nature Made Iron 65 mg Equivalent to 325 mg Ferrous Sulfate" every evening. Also I take a vitamin C 500 mg chewable tablet along with the iron in the evening time. Sorry to hear that you don't have insurance...I hope get the community benefits to help you out in your time of need(s). I wish you all the very best in what you're going though.

This is definitely a good reminder on why we need to take our vitamins! I'm one to skip every now and then because I can't tolerate the taste of my chewable vitamins anymore. I paid so much for them (Bariatric Advantage) and don't want to buy anymore if I have big jars of the ones I have. Thanks for sharing and I truly hope things get better for you.
