So tomorrow is my first 5K....I will be doing the Color in Motion in San Diego, CA. For those who are runners and experienced in races, please provide me tips.

Are there any suggestions on what I should eat the night before and the morning of? Someone suggested I eat a banana with peanut butter to give me energy. It was also suggested that I take a Gu Energy Gel just in case I lose momentum during the race for an extra boost of energy. Has anyone tried those before? And should I try the caffeinated or non-caffeinated? I know I'm not running a full marathon, but if this helps me during my run I'll try it. :)

Given the distance, you should have plenty of reserves in your muscles to finish. Make sure you drink your water and keep a steady pace. I do some distance cycle events and I usually don't start worrying about replacing food until I get into 2+ hours. The body is very efficient and can run a long way on existing reserves. Eat what you normally are eating. It is not time to try anything exotic on your stomach. Eat your normal breakfast with maybe a cup of coffee if you are tolerating it already and you should have plenty of juice to finish. Good luck!

Thanks! :) I'm definitely going to drink plenty of water the night before and a few sips during the race. I tend to get dehydrated easily.

You will do great. I just did a 5k and my 15 year old daughter came in only 4 minutes ahead of me and I am 53.  She is either really slow or I am really good:-)

How did the race go??

“Not many of us are living at our best.  We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains.  The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills.  We do not know what we lose in our self indulgence.  What glory awaits us if only we had the courage for the mountain climb.  What blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God.?  JRM
