Sleep study so Insurance company covers the surgery?

My surgeon is making do a sleep study to make sure I don't have sleep apnea before administering anestesia.  The sleep doctor is saying just do a home test if you really are not having sleep issues... I will do the full sleep test if that is what the insurance needs to approve the surgery.  My BMI is 41 and I have arthritis in my knee, hoping that is enough to get approved with BCBS Anthem...  Thoughts?

BSBC Anthem of Illinois is what I have and they didn't require the sleep study but my surgeon did.  Basically with mine (I would assume yours is close if not the same)  once you have that magic BMI number you're in.

My surgeon also required it.  My insurance would not pay for an in patient study.  They did cover the home study and it it was a breeze.  I'm sure it was much cheaper.

I don't think insurances require it.  That's a dr's preference, at least on CIgna.
