Prom dress shopping and reality.

Today I took my daughter prom dress shopping. She looked beautiful in several of the dresses, but on the way home she said she doesn't think she will go to prom this year but maybe next year when she looses weight. Breaks my heart.

Why can't we see- why don't we know that youth in and of its self is beautiful?  You can't tell your daughter that- she dosn't believe it, and won't know it untill she is older and looks back- sigh-  Looking for perfection in the future in order to enjoy life---jusr , wow.  No answers here, but it makes me sad, too.  A sad mystery.  Oh, for the words....

I hope you encourage her to go.  It's a bad habit to get into in life to wait until things are "perfect" to do something.  My date dumped me three days before prom.  I was so upset and embarrassed.  My parents gently encouraged me to anyway and you know what?  I had a good time and 25 years later I'm so glad I didn't deny myself that evening.  Sure, it was hard to be the only one there without a date, just as it's hard to be a heavier person.  But my motto has become, "Never delay joy!"  Best of luck to your daughter.

I absolutely encouraged her to go! We drove 2 hours away yesterday and went dress shopping,  and just enjoyed the day together,  but she still isn't sure if she wants to go....

It makes me sad to hear about your daughter. I remember telling myself the same thing. Kept myself back from doing a lot of things because my weight, then when I look back I was actually smaller than I am today. Hopefully you can convince her that she should go and when she does,  post pictures!

This makes me want to cry. If I could go back to my childhood/teenage self and tell myself ONE thing, it would be that I am just as worthy as all the other kids and to not let my weight keep me from doing anything. I have lived almost my whole life in a state of "once I lose weight, then I will ______". I'm so sorry your daughter feels that way. Huge to you and her.

And you, Miss, are the sweetest person on here. You are most definitely beautiful, inside and out.

Thank you to all. We have been working on the "if" and "not sure if I want to go", but it is going to be a long road. She is actually in the middle of trying to get the VSG done and she doesn't want to go unless she has it done first. I have tried to tell her to go with her friends and have the night of her life!

On a bright note I think she found her dream dress, but we can't find it in her size to try on, all the shops have small sizes to demo... Like we bigger girls don't go to prom too!, frustrating!
