I weighed 326 and now weigh 186 and was curious of the % of weight that I have lost so far. Can someone please tell me how to calculate it?

Thank you!

I don't have a pen available to figure out exact math right now but you've lost 140 so that's approx 43-44% of 326.  I'll be at a place where I can write it out for ya a bit later.  Sorry!    BTW that's phenomenal, Congrats!!

You look up your ideal weight for your height.

(Starting weight)  minus (current weight) = weight lost.

(starting weight) minus ( ideal weight) = excess body weight

then  (weight lost) divided by (excess body weight)  times 100 = percent excess weight lost.

I hope this helps.  I think that's right...

Carol has the right idea here, then the only wrinkle in this is what your "ideal" weight is. Most docs use a BMI of 25, which is the top of the "normal" range (you can use the calculator here on OH to figure that out,) though just to confuse the issue, some docs may use a different BMI as their standard (my doc uses 24 as the standard for his published results so he sets his bar a little higher than those who use 25.)

Of course, "ideal" is different for all of us, so these BMI numbers may or may not be that useful for us individually, but they do give a good comparison when discussing populations.
