How do you get the % of EWL
You look up your ideal weight for your height.
(Starting weight) minus (current weight) = weight lost.
(starting weight) minus ( ideal weight) = excess body weight
then (weight lost) divided by (excess body weight) times 100 = percent excess weight lost.
I hope this helps. I think that's right...

Carol has the right idea here, then the only wrinkle in this is what your "ideal" weight is. Most docs use a BMI of 25, which is the top of the "normal" range (you can use the calculator here on OH to figure that out,) though just to confuse the issue, some docs may use a different BMI as their standard (my doc uses 24 as the standard for his published results so he sets his bar a little higher than those who use 25.)
Of course, "ideal" is different for all of us, so these BMI numbers may or may not be that useful for us individually, but they do give a good comparison when discussing populations.
