So... what if I am not getting enough fluids and protein? I am 3 weeks post op and know that I am not getting enough of either.. could this affect my weight loss? or anything else?

It can and will affect weight loss. Water retention is the nemesis of weight loss mode. When you aren't getting enough fluids, your body goes into "keep every ounce of water we can get" mode because it doesn't know that you aren't lost and dying in the desert ;) When you ARE getting enough water, your body flushes it out along with toxins, etc. With protein, you need it for long-term energy, not to mention the fact that when you are eating mostly protein, your body burns fat stores instead of carbs (since your body isn't getting carbs).

Trust me, I KNOW it's difficult during the first few weeks. I wasn't able to start hitting water or protein goals until after the 5th or 6th-ish week. Just keep plugging along and try to do better tomorrow that you did today!

you must work at getting 65 oz of liquid even if you eat nothing else or you will end up in the ER

ice pops count , broth , herb tea ,decafe coffee ,protein shakes

most important

1  liquids 65 oz

2 protein 80 gm ( only if you  got your liquids in )

3 fiber to keep thing moving (only if you got your liquids and protein in )

weight loss is secondary  being healthy is most important , the weight will come off and it will get easier in a few weeks

considering that dehydration can be deadly and if you  don't get enough protein, your body will  start eating your  muscles and heart and lungs and kidneys to get the protein,um,yeah,it could be bad.

Just do it,ou don't have to want to or like it,but you have to do it.

Yes and yes.  The first couple weeks if you are low on protein nothing terrible, but if it is a long term issue than your body will lose muscle.  Pretty crappy if it is the heart muscle, eh?  Fluids- super important because you need to flush all that protein through.  Without fluids you will retain water too- no fun on the scale.  There are a ton of other reasons why you should hit your targets so keep working toward them!

I'm also 3 weeks out.  I'm not hitting the 64 oz yet but I'm getting about 40.  Between actual water, protein shakes, and cup of sugar free hot chocolate I like to drink at night.  I also eat jello at least once a day, I know I'm not supposed to "snack" according to my dr's plan but I don't see jello as a snack.  It goes down well, I like it, and its a good way to get in fluids.  Jello is the only thing that kept me out of the hospital for an IV during the first week when each sip of water caused me horrendous pain!
