Hi, just wondering if there is anyone out there who has or had a sedentary lifestyle and still lost a good amount of weight with a vsg.I know you should exercise, of course. But has anyone reached goal with very little movement? Such as being unemployed and sitting around watching tv?  Thanks in advance.

Interesting question. Are you asking for yourself our about someone else?

For myself. I am on long term disability and very inactive. That won't be forever, I will get better. Just hoping to hear from someone similar who can tell me how it went if possible.

Glanced at your profile and see you've had quite the journey. I am scheduled for my sleeve at the end of the month. I do not have physical disabilities but other issues leave me sedentary for weeks at a time.  I too worry about the effect of this on my WL progress.

I wish you the very best.

I was sedentary before surgery, but decided if I was going to do something as drastic as removing most of my stomach, I was going to commit to the program, and the program included exercise.

I don't like exercising, and I didn't pu**** but I found an exercise that didn't cause me pain, the recumbent stationary bike, and I did a few minutes every day.  Just 3 minutes a day at first.  I had to exercise every day, or I'd make excuses and end up not doing it.  I didn't push, but got to 10 minutes a day by surgery date.  Now I do 20 minutes a day, and don't plan on increasing beyond that.

Personally, I think it helps to exercise.

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

I've been concerned about this too. I have some serious arthritis in my feet and knees which keeps me from walking sometimes. I have had multiple cortisone shots this year in the tops of my feet (ow~!) and both knees, plus 1 complete round of Synvisc to both knees.  In the last 2 months I have re-injured both knees and now I'm using a cane. At the moment I'm on a steroid dose-pak.  I can walk around the mall some, with stop breaks, and I can get the grocery shopping done. I can walk my little dog about 1/2 mile some days.  I cannot run, do anything on my knees, or rise up on my toes. Zumba and low-impact aerobics is excrutiatingly painful. And yoga makes me literally vomit, due to all the head movements (I have some mean vertigo.)  That pretty much leaves aquatic therapy. I hate wearing a bathing suit AND getting wet, but I guess I'm gonna have no choice. I'll just have to force myself. .

I may have to look into getting a recumbent bike. THAT i could do, I think

don't discount weight training, that can be very low impact and it is an awesome form of exercise.

I agree. It's my favorite kind of exercise.
