Surgery (VSG) is 1/6/14!  Surgeon requires only 1 week liquid diet before surgery for my BMI category but since I am on the higher end of my category, I decided to add the extra 5 days!  Breakfast fine....coffee and protein shake but I added a 12 ounce water and thought I was gonna pop!  I am having trouble imagining how I ill drink three 11 once protein shakes AND 64 ounces of water/crystal light with the sleeve, if I am already filling my big football sized stomach now?  How did you do it?  I also started the Celebrate vitamins.  The multivitamin is pretty small and ok but te calcium is like eating sidewalk chalk...lol!  Yuk!

Congratulations on your surgery date!  Don't worry about getting ALL your liquid in the first couple of weeks.  You probably won't.  Concentrate on getting as much protein as you can manage and fill in with water/other liquids as manageable.  You'll work your way up, but I will say I have to really work to get in 64 oz of liquid.

Congratulations on the New you for the New year.

It is ruff getting in the three shakes at first but, the 33 oz does count as part of the 64 oz of fluid.  What shakes will you be using.  I found the thinner ones I changed to after surgery made it easier.

I've tried multiple types and I have decided that the Sam's Club Premier Protein shakes taste pretty good.  My store only carries chocolate and vanilla.  They have 30 grams of protein, 160 calories, 4 grams of total carbs, 3 grams of total fat and are 11 ounces.   They seem pretty thin in consistency.  I have seen a lot of post on here regarding Whey protein as being the best but my nutritionist did not limit us to just whey protein.  These Sam's club shakes are milk protein.

The Premier Protein is pretty good.  They only carry chocolate and vanilla in the stores according to the rep.  He said they are phasing out the Strawberry altogether but that was a year ago and I keep seeing it on the add.

Wonder why you Nuts don't count it.  Fluid is fluid in that early stage where it is hard to get in even 64 oz and protein is so important to heal and lose.

I know I was able to get the 64 oz of water + shakes later but, early on the 24 oz I got from my 8 oz shakes was hard to get in along with 40 oz of water.  Early on I used the Nectar fruit flavors made with water as they were thinner and easier to get down.  Loved premier for on the go and it was a good one.

I wonder why the Nut isn't limiting you to whey?  There are protein shakes that your body can't use and if you rely on them you can get into trouble.

I would ask your nutritionalist if the protein shakes count. My nut is adament that protein shakes are not included in the 64oz of fluids.

No...she (the nutritionist) said the protein shakes DON'T count in the total fluid intake.  The doctor recommends 64 ounces in addition to the protein supplements.

I couldn't do 5 shakes a day on the pre-op. But keep drinking the water and get in the habit of sipping (mouthfull). You will soon notice that your body increases what it wants the more you give the more it wants. By the time I had surgery I was drinking upwards of 100oz a day not including shakes and broth.
