Need Better Vitamin Habits.

OK, so at a few days shy of 6 months out, I suck at taking my vitamins. I need some suggestions for ways to remember to take the stupid things CONSISTENTLY. I tried putting them next to my hair dryer so that I would see them EVERY day, and they ended up getting blocked from sight by hair products... I tried putting them next to the blender for when I make my morning shake, but then I end up overlooking them half the time in the chaos of that corner of the kitchen counter.

OK, smarties. Whatcha got? I know y'all will give me good suggestions for remembering! Here's to better habits!

Side note... is there such a thing as a POWDERED multivitamin that I could just add to my morning shake (usually plain old vanilla)? I feel like that "extra ingredient" could be an easy habit to form...

Do you have a smartphone? Set an alarm.

There are powdered vitamins. The name escapes me at the moment, but perhaps you can google?

Hi Chrissy,

Ok, this is a huge problem for me as well.  It is not that I don't want to take them, I just forget.  I have tried many things, but in the end the one that works the best is carrying everything in my purse and keeping some at home.  That way when I get to work, I can still take them.  More times than not I end up taking meds at work because it is always forgotten at home.  I am ADHD so I cannot begin to tell you how many times I would start to go take them, but then in mid-stride redirect to something else.  Here are other things that I tried, but with minimal success:

Set alarms on my phone (I would ignore them after a while)

Note on the bathroom mirror and kitchen cupboard that has the meds (eventually they just became part of the scenery)

Leave the meds on the counter so I can see them as a visual reminder

Have my daughters/husband remind me when they took their meds

All in all, for me it is about habit.  Once I get going I am usually Ok, but then the school breaks kill me.  I am so far off the vitamin path right now I fear for my lab results that are coming up in a week.  Ok, so I am going to go take my meds now while I am thinking about it!

Yeah, this is me as well... I've tried everything that you've listed, too. I think I'm going to look into some sort of powdered multi that I can add to my breakfast shake. We'll see what I can find!

I take the Unjury multivitamin it is a chewable one a day pill it is huge i hate it. I take it just before i get in the shower, so the hair washing, condition etc take my focus off of the chewing of this huge pill that i finish chewing by the time i finish my shower.

my three calcium chews i take at work just line them up on my desk so i can visually see that i need to take them.  Everything else i can take at once in the am right after my yogurt. It helps me to have everything in a weekly pill box that i fill every sunday

I'm the same way..I keep forgetting..I've had to put my vitamins by my computer while working so I visually see them and get prompted. I like the idea of using your smartphone as a vitamin alarm!

I purchased powdered BariLife in Cherry Berry and I ain't gonna lie..it tastes bad because of the iron. I mix my powdered  UpCal with vitamin D with it just to get the whole ordeal over.  I also tried Celebrate bariatric chewables in pineapple strawberry and they are so sickeningly sweet that it's hard to take them.  To get the taste out of my mouth after taking either of them I eat about 1/2 tsp of hummus and that works like a charm.

I tend to start my day at my computer, and end my day at the computer.  So I have two weeks work of those pill containers sitting next to the laptop.  Every two weeks I fill them up with the vitamins, supplements, and meds.  I know which ones I can take on an empty stomach, so those go down with my first cup of coffee in the morning.  After breakfast, I do the ones that will make me sick on an empty stomach.  Then before bed I take the rest.

The pill containers I got at CVS are the kind where you can "pop out" a single days worth of pills and throw them in your purse if you forget to take them in the morning.  The pill containers are hard to overlook, unlike the jumbled mess of vitamin, supplement, and medication bottles.

I, too, use pill containers. I have to take morning supplements and evening supplements. I have ones for just one week, and keep them in my medicine cabinet. I take my morning ones with my shake (it's just automatic for me), and then take my evening ones usually in the later afternoon. I will admit that sometime I forget my evening ones, but have been working on it and am getting better. I only forget about once every couple weeks.

Maybe the pill containers will help. Although, if you put them out for you to see and still miss them maybe not. I second the suggestion to create an alarm or "event" on your phone calendar. You can usually set it for your phone to send you a message with a reminder daily.

Good luck!

I put mine in a pill organizer because I take other meds daily. I put them on my nightstand next to my alarm clock. First thing in the morning I take them with my water, bottled, that is also on my nightstand. I keep bottled water on my nightstand because I find during the winter I get thirsty at night with the heater being on.

Okay. Bear with me, here.

You could crush them and add them to your shake.

JUST A SUGGESTION from my doctor to me to you to forum.

The B100s really suck crushed without a shake don't try it ...like i did... it's worse than the cinnamon challenge. ;)
