What were you eating at five weeks out?  Were you safe to order fish in a restaurant?

Probably best to follow doctors orders if solids are allowed.  I believe there were and fish was very easy.  you probably aren't goint to get a lot down.  Salmon used to work well for me.

I'm 6 weeks out.  I can eat fish and shrimp when we go out.  Of course, I can only eat about 2 ounces of fish and 3 shrimp. Not together, separately. If I try to eat all that I will be sick for a couple hours. Usually, DH and I share a plate.  Our favorite fish place had really good fish and they serve it with soft mixed veggies, not half cooked crispy broccoli.  I cut up the squash slices into small pieces, add it to a small forkful of fish and chew, chew, chew. The moisture in the soft veggie helps it slide down.  There have been times when I used some soft baked potato or soft cauliflower to float the food down, as well. I've even used small amounts of grits, in a pinch.

I'll be 5 weeks out on Tuesday and I've been able to eat fish.  Lump crab meat really goes down well.  I had tilapia tonight and it was fine.

I could eat fish at 5 weeks out.  But only about 1.5-2 ounces.

Soft fish worked well..but even at almost 4 months out, I find shrimp to be a bit too..muscular I guess. It stays put but just chewing it forever and wasn't really able to chew it into very small pieces.  The imitation crab is good, though.

Thanks for the replies, all!  My plan allows for "soft food" at five weeks and fish is one of the biggies that's allowed in that.  My partner and I are going to NYC for a trip that was planned way before my surgery and we'd like to eat at La Bernardin while there.. but I'm trying to decide if I can justify it for only being able to eat 2 ounces of fish!  My partner thinks we should do it regardless of how much I can eat (he's happy to finish my plates and he's a marathoner so he can eat a billion calories a day and still be normal) but I don't know.  It might be weird.
