Where is the weight loss?

Well saw my regular doctor and stepped on scale and it said 375 and I did a quick calculation and I was 100 lbs down and 63 lbs since surgery.  I keep thinking when will that magic time happen when I put on my pants and they fall to the floor?  Was I wearing my clothes so tight before or is there something wrong with my body that I am only losing weight where it is not around my middle?  I wish I could look at my body and see it. Don't get me wrong I am grateful for what I see on the scale just frustrated looking at myself and not seeing it.

Time to take a long, hard look at some before pictures! Right now, go and find a picture of yourself from before surgery... Then take a snapshot of yourself today and COMPARE THEM SIDE BY SIDE. You'll see it, trust me! Body image issues is something that MOST of us struggle with post op. I, too, am down 100 pounds and I have days when I don't see it. But then I go and look at pictures that were tagged of me on Facebook from this time last year and I am SHOCKED at the change.

I saw that your starting weight was high like mine. I had some of the same issues. My husband had his surgery 3 weeks before me and our friend 2 weeks before him, they both were going through clothes like it was going out of style and I still kept wearing the same clothing. I think that the larger sizes have more lee way and therefore leave more room for more weight gain and or loss. My husband lost all his weight in his waist/stomach area and dropped 3 sizes in the first month. It wasn't until month 4 that I had to get new pants. I think a lot of depends on what type of clothes you wear too. I had a lot of stretch/elastic pants and they just kind of shrunk with me. It was the trousers and jeans that I needed to replace. Just keep up the hard work and you will see changes soon!

I am not quite at 100 lbs down (yet), but I feel like i's just starting to be noticeable. We ALL have those areas we focus on as being our fat indicators. The area that I focus on is the pudge that hangs down over my pelvis. I keep saying if I could just lose right there my self esteem will jump. I can still wear my very large shirts and sweatpants. They are way too big, but I can wear them. If your clothes are stretchy, you may have been wearing them tighter before and looser now. If that's the case you probably could go down in size, and then your perception might change. If I were to put on some of my biggest clothes right now, I would look bigger than I am, so you probably either need to change your wardrobe or compare the fit of the clothes or even look in the mirror nude (I know that one is tough for me, but you might needs to do it to see).

One of the thongs you can not control in the process is where the weight loss will come from.  It will all happen with time though.

Girlfriend, you're singing to the choir.

I'm down 111 lbs from my highest weight and still wearing the same clothes.  I wear size 4X in pants.  They are currently baggy, dragging the ground, but I can still wear them.  I no longer have to stretch out most of my tops, size 3X, before I put them on.

I've convinced myself that it's a trick that gravity plays on us.  My upper body is shrinking, but my lower half isn't losing at the same rate.

The clothes downsizing will come in time.  We just started at higher weights than a lot of people and normal sizes have smaller variations.  Plus, if you're like me, my fat clothes are VERY stretchy.

Someone mentioned once that the reason sizes might not drop as fast as we think they should is because the clothes we're wearing at operation date are probably tight and/or stretched out.  Could that be a culprit?

I want to thank everyone for what you said I feel a lot better about this. Yes I am wearing stretchy clothes and I hope my clothes were not that tight though. I have never liked tight clothes. Yes some of my clothes are very loose but are not so loose that I can not wear my current clothes without it looking like they are too big for me.  I dont really have any before pictures I avoided cameras.  So all I can do is look in the mirror and not see the difference.  My friends all say they can see a difference I just don't see it.

If you're anything like me, you are waiting for the day when your pants literally fall off of you.  It. Will. Happen.  We've both lost over 100 lbs!

Look on the bright side - we've saved money not having to buy interim clothes... yet.

I've had this issue w/ my pants.  I wear the Lane Bryant jeans that have some spandex in them and so they've fit me for the whole almost 40 lb loss.  Now, though, they button loosely right out of the dryer.  LOL  Before they didn't feel comfortable until the "second wearing"...kwim?  I think my aversion to shopping and buying another horrific size kept me from buying jeans that weren't super comfortable before.  Also, they're now hanging very long and dragging under my feet so something is missing that used to hold them up.  Keep up the good work....you'll be in new clothes soon!
