THEIR food and MY food

Happy Beautiful Saturday Morning all! I need a cookbook or website with low carb low fat recipes please.  I'm eating healthy now and after my surgery next week when I can eat solid foods again I will have to & want to eat healthy for life, my Doc says strive for 50 or less grams of carbs from now on.  I start liquids only two days before surgery & I've got that covered.  There is no junk food, ice cream or chips in the pantry or fridge; much to my very tall & skinny husbands dismay + my daughter although she is fit & trim misses the occasional snacky snack too; though I've introduced her into loving fruit again.

Firstly let me tell you all that I already bake everything, I don't own a deep fryer anymore.  I do have to fry my husbands venison & pork chops & bacon though in the skillet but that's all that I have fried in years.  But the food they eat and the food I have to eat doesn't jive.  I bake their french fries, chicken tenders, fish sticks but all that stuff is processed & breaded.  I don't want to have two separate grocery lists & having corn dogs in the freezer even though I bake em isn't going to be a good thing after my surgery either.  I sneak healthy stuff into my cooking for them when I can, I make a delicious chicken casserole with boiled chicken that they love & they are finally drinking 1% milk - after much eye rolling, what ARE they gonna do when I switch back to skim?  ANYWAY what is a good cookbook or website full of low carb low fat recipes that I can get them to enjoy too?

Frisco's website, the world according to egg face, and even this site. I have gotten loads of recipes from here. I even make up some of my own. I also have found recipes and ideas on Pinterest and by googling VSG blogs, cause a lot of us VSGers blog. YouTube "VSG." It introduced me to some great blogs from some really strict and successful VSGers.

I'm so pleased to hear you got rid of the junk food and are really committing to this process.  It bodes well for your success.  Nice job!

I like Laurie's low carb cookbook.  It isn't necessarily low fat, but I just modify the recipes.  For example, I like Atkins beef stroganoff recipe, but I omit the sour cream, and its still good.  Or I found a recipe for chicken Lazone and again I make it without the sour cream, and its still great.  I don't have a website that I use, but I am constantly cruising the web searching for new ideas.

Its funny because I wasn't much into cooking before surgery.  Its easy to find high fat, high carb foods with minimal work.  But it takes some effort to eat good tasting healthy foods.

best of luck,

Carol

I've gotten this cookbook and it looks pretty interesting -- http://www.amazon.com/Eating-Well-After-Weight-Surgery-ebook/dp/B001D1Z7UI/

I also have all the South Beach Diet Cookbooks and I think those will be useful post-op, especially the phase 1 recipes.  There are a lot of phase 2 recipes too which are easy to modify - make the family the noodles while I just have the rest of it, etc.

My family will definitely be eating the food I cook for myself, since I'm never going to cook separate meals for them!  I'm mean.
