Too much water?
I spoke with my dietician about sometimes getting a weird almost black out vision (this is hard to describe) when I stand up. It lasts for only a few seconds and then I am fine.
She said that sometimes happens when people take in too much fluids and it drains their electrolytes. So I've been paying attention to when it happens and when it doesn't. Sure enough when I have more than 64 ounces of water a day I get the weird black out vision. But when I stick to my recommended 60-64 I am totally fine.
Has as anyone else ever experienced this?
Nope, powerade was right. They make a zero calorie drink, gatorade does not.

Funny that you mention this. My NUT brought this up last week.
I told her that I wanted to increase my water intake to 100 oz. She strongly advised against it, claiming it could cause a serious electrolyte imbalance.
She explained about ions not bonding when too much fluid was consumed (or some such science-y thing like that). Don't know how much of this is true. Since I struggle getting my 64 oz of water in each day, I didn't think I'd have to worry about an electrolyte problem.

Nope, and I drink nearly a gallon of water daily. Pretty sure I'm not "draining" electrolytes. Were that the case, I'd have muscle cramping, but since I take calcium 2x daily, a magnesium supplement and I eat salt, I'm good.
When my vision did black out it was because I was on BP meds that were too strong. My PCP took me off of them and those spells stopped.

I read something (here?) about the blood vessels being "flabby" after WLS surgery (we lose weight faster than our veins and arteries can shape up and catch up) and that's what causes us to get light-headed if we stand up really fast and just rush off instead of easing up from a sitting position, letting our blood pressure even out a bit, then getting up rather slowly and walking slowly for a few seconds. This still happens to me and I'm 2 years out (RNY). Haven't ever had a doctor or my WLS surgeon tell me to cut back on water.
Definitely not low blood pressure I just had it checked last week. Never had high blood pressure and have never taken blood pressure meds.
I think once I starts eating more as I've only been off the liquid diet for a week that I will increase my fluid as I increase food and this sodium.
Im not dehydrated and I get at least 60 ounces a day so I know it's not that either. Thanks for the replies! Just thought it was very weird!
