Taste change

I am 6 days post op VSG. I was on liquid diet for a week pre surgery and drank my protein shakes and water only. Now I can not stand the taste of the same protein shake. They taste like sour milk even mixing it with jus****er. I can not drink it. I am suppose to be on liquids and I am barely getting in 32 oz of water a day and maybe 2 oz of broth each day. Everything just taste bad. Has that happened to anyone else. My doctor said I have to be on liquids for 3 weeks and I just don't see getting any nutrition like this.

Yes, after 2 weeks of shakes pre op and going on 2 weeks post op, I developed an aversion to milky protein shakes.  I went to GNC and bought a Fruit Punch flavored powder which wound up tasting like fruit punch mixed with milk and I couldn't drink that either.  I went back to GNC and got clear Isopure.  It comes in 20 oz bottles and had 40 grams of protein per bottle.  The flavors are a little much but the mildest tasting as far as I'm concerned is the grape.  I don't like the way it smells so I mix some crystal light powder with it to mask the smell.

Sadly it's not uncommon to have significant taste changes post-op.  Try other brands?  Isopure makes a clear shake that a lot of people like.  Syntrax also has a lot of non-traditional flavors that might work for you.

I noticed the same thing.  I always had a bad taste in my mouth early out of surger as well.  I wondered then if it was from our bodies going through Ketosis.  It seems to be better now that I am nearly 5 months post op
