Compression garments are suggested for recovery after plastic surgery, but I wouldn't think that it would do anything for the VSG healing process. Definitely ask your surgeon before doing something like that... Something about the idea just doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Frankly, I couldn't stand to have anything remotely tight around my stomach/waist area for weeks.  It seemed to push everything up into my new stomach area and that just caused me more pain and acid build up.

I would take your friend's advice with a grain-of-salt.  Unless she's been through this she doesn't understand what you're going through.  After 2-3 months when you are fully healed, you may want to reconsider.  Believe me when I say that shapewear will be your FRIEND as you continue to lose and deal with extra skin! :-)

Ditto exactly what she said.  Except I'm 4 months out and still find anything tight pushes the food up and not down.  My husband now expects me to get into the car and undo my jeans after a restaurant meal lol.

If I'm not eating though clothes that constrict are quite comfortable now.

That's what I'm hearing! Guess I'll have to invest in some body shapers! : )

I wore a binder and it felt so good, but my surgeon put it on me after surgery.

I'm with everyone else. Ask your surgeon first before trying it.
