I had my surgery on April 30th! I was home on May 2nd. My surgeon said my surgery was textbook... no complications. I was happy to hear that. I feel like I've been hit by a bus, but it'll all be worth it in the end! Question: HOW IN THE WORLD AM I SUPPOSED TO TAKE IN 60G OF PROTEIN? I can drink water & apple juice without a problem, but I couldn't get the broth or protein jello down... I'm looking forward to going through this process, but I can't lie, I'm a little scared!

Congrats on your surgery going well! It will get better with each day that goes by! As far as the protein goes, that is going to be your protein shakes 100% right now. I am a month out, and still do 2 shakes (with 30 gr protein each) to make my 80 gr goal. The 1st week I did not come anywhere near protein goal. I took 1 pre-made protein shake, and split it into 3 times per day. Sipping Water all the time and popsicles/broth/etc inbetween as tolerated. Your main focus right now is staying hydrated. Protein will come with time :)

If you're still on clear liquids stick to the drinks they were giving you at the hospital. Mine were Isopure and came in fruit punch and grape.

Just keep sipping and staying hydrated :) the protein will come with time! congrats and welcome to the bench :)

Hi Tina,

I've been wondering how things went!!  So glad to hear all is going well. What did they give you in the hospital for clear liquids?  Did you start on protein shakes in the hospital?

Keep us updated.

Thank you!!! They gave me apple juice, tea and protein jello. They didn't give us shakes. I started my shakes when I got home, though...

Hi, buddy!  Be glad that you had an extra day in the hospital.  I was out on 5/1, and it was really rough.

My hospital tray didn't even have protein.  They told me to work to my protein goals, but in the short term, get whatever fluid I could tolerate down.  I was able to drink two of my favorite shakes yesterday.  I'm also sipping skim milk.  They also said if I was tolerating clear liquids, I could move on to strained cream soups.  Who knew cream of mushroom soup could be so tasty?!

Hey!!! There's NO way I could have gone home the next day! I was still high off the anesthesia! I couldn't do anything but sleep! I'm doing ok with the clear liquids. My surgeon doesn't allow cream soups until stage 2... I'm ok with that, though... Slow and steady... Lol. Glad you're doing well!
