Does anyone have experience going off of Lasix and experiencing weight gain?  My blood pressure has been low, so my doc took me off of it, but now I'm gaining weight (10 days out) and I know I'm totally retaining water. I go back to the doc today, but I'm curious what you all think. Here are Weights so far.

Day of surgery- 331

day 1-326

day 2- 325

day 4- 322

day 6- 320 (last day of Lasix)

day 7- 316

day 8-316

day9- 317

day 10- 320

why else would I be up 4 lbs?  I've been eating/drinking according to plan and walking every day.

Any thoughts?

I had to stop taking my water pill several days before surgery and I was retaining water, I gained about 6 pounds.  I can't take it now because it would dehydrate me and make my bp bottom out.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, you are going to lose weight!

That's exactly my problem. My morning blood pressure was 90/61 on no meds. I seriously doubt they will restart the Lasix. It's just disappointing, because I don't want to be full of fluid and puffy, and I want to see the scale go down.

I stopped my water pill at surgery and had no problems on the liquid phase.  However, once I started soft foods, I gained 10 lbs.  I just got the surgeon to let me start up again as I was having some bad edema in my lower legs.  I dropped 4 lbs in 2 days.  Water is heavy.

Your body is likely just regulating itself. With consisten****er intake and not heaping amounts of sodium plus your walking it should even out. This journey is not just tied to the scale but to improving overall health so the less meds you end up on (safely) the better.

It's still early, not time to fret yet.   Maybe try cutting back on how often you weigh yourself so it doesn't stress you, can you try every 4 days or once a week?

Why were you on the lasix in the first place?  Was it something you took before surgery or just after? If its for something like CHF, I would call your surgeon and notify them of the weight gain.

Asides from the lasix,  it's pretty much expected to gain weight after surgery.  It's all water.  They pump you full of fluids.  Plus,  all of the inflammation from the surgery itself and different medications.

Your loss is fantastic for the first few weeks out.  I'd think your body is just regulating and re-adjusting itself to not having the medication and, unless you develop noticeable edema, I'd try to stay off of the lasix and give yourself a chance to normalize.

I think I figured it out. I'm in the dr office waiting for my primary care right now. My bp is super low. Like 93/59. I did a little research on my phone, and I think I'm dehydrated. It's says blood pressure can drop with dehydration due to low blood volume. When you're dehydrated, your body holds on to every ounce of fluid, and my urine is pretty dark. SO, I'm not sure what the answer is, but that all makes sense. And my pulse was 100, which is really high for me. Internet says pulse goes up when dehydrated.

Im drinking ALL the time. In all seriousness, not sure how I could get in any more fluid. I'll update after I see the doctor.

Thanks!!

You might consider adding a bottle of gatorade to your daily liquids.  That might help.

Don't worry.  Your weight will go down.  Your body is just adjusting.   Even with the blip in your weight, your weight loss is almost two pounds a day.  That is fantastic.  As I lost weight I quit retaining fluid.  My feet were skinny fat-wise but always a little puffy when I was heavy. Not a bit of swelling now!  Be consistant with your fluid intake and it will all even out. Make sure you get your protein also.
