Help- awful taste in my mouth when I get hungry?!!!

I'm 6 weeks out, and the past 2 weeks I've noticed a horrible Metallic taste in my mouth, usually as I'm getting hungry, or after some time has passed after eating. It's so bad it makes me nauseated. Eating helps and chewing gum helps but I know we aren't supposed to chew gum. I also have a burning sensation in my stomach/sleeve. Any ideas?  I do take a PPI daily.

Thanks- Renee

I'd call your dr.  Maybe you need a different PPI?

Sounds like acid to me.  I would definitely call the doctor.

I agree with the other posters.  You might need a stronger PPI or to take one more frequently.  I take Pepcid AC twice a day.  Also, some medications will give you that metallic taste.  Could be the PPI you are taking now.

I agree with Gwen. I think it's ketosis. That has been my experience.

Edited for typo

The burning sensation is probably unrelated to the weird taste in your mouth.  The burning is most likely acid.  Talk to your doctor about another PPI or pop occasional Tums.  That's what I do for break-through acid.

Well, I called the nurse at the surgeons office and she said that it sounds like acid- to keep up with the Prevacid and call back if it doesn't get better. Then she said "I need you to be totally honest...  Are you taking your vitamins and supplements?"  I was honest and told her not every day because I HATE the chewables but have capsules ordered. She said the metallic taste is a symptom of vitamin deficiency and I need to start taking them today and every day.

So, got my answers. I'm sure that's why I've been fatigued too. Back to basics.

Thanks for all of your replies!!!
