8 months out of VSG, No weight loss since 2 months

Hi all,

I am finally back on this forum after a long, tiring roller coaster ride in the past 2 months!

So, I had VSG on Oct 14th, 2014 & Now I am 8 months out. My heaviest weight was 265 lbs! I currently weigh 198 lbs :( I know I hate to say I am still Obese.

I still consume 70 to 90 grams protein, 80 oz of water & try to keep my carbs minimal, but eat more once a while, walk atleast 3 times a week.

In spite of all that, my weight loss has come to a stand still :( Have lost only 1 pound since 2 months! I have started feeling hungry a lot more often and the hunger pangs are intense. My doctor just put me on appetite suppresants, but if I still have to go through all this after the VSG, whats the point!?

So disappointed :( I really wanted to hit my goal weight, or atleast 145 lbs by my one year surgiversary, which is Oct 14th 2014, looks like I wont make it :(

Totally lost! Help me :(

Are you tracking everything that you put into your mouth with a program such as MyFitnessPal?  That would be my first step in your shoes.  Calorie creep can happen when we grow complacent.

I'd also work on getting more exercise.  Try to move daily for at least 30 minutes.

Hey Gwen,

I will try to move 30 mins a day, but my concern is, I thought I would be loosing no matter what because we eat so little post op, but that is not happening, How can my body hold on to all this fat & weight, when I am eating 600 to 700 calories a day? :(

Are you tracking and measuring everything you put in your mouth?  Or is the 600-700 calories an estimate?

Have you talked to your surgeon about your lack of weight loss?  (You mention your doctor, but I'm not sure if that's the actual surgeon or not.)

I used to log everything on MFP, but lost interest after I stopped losing 2 and ahalf months ago :(

Ok, so My calorie intake:

3 premier protein shakes a day : almost 500 calories

Nuts, 1 or 2 quest bars, & veggies make up for the rest of the 250 - 300 calories :( What am I doing wrong?

P.S : once a while I do eat rice :( and other simple carbs, but I am only human! (blink blink) :(

Well the thing is, if you're not weighing and tracking everything you eat, you can't know for sure what you're actually consuming.  So you should get back to that.

I would also wonder why you're still having three shakes a day and so little in the way of real food.  What you've listed here is also, according to your numbers, close to 900 calories a day.  Which could be a problem.

Have you spoken to your surgeon or your nutritionist about your lack of weight loss?

Yes I did speak to them, and they are fine with my diet. I drink so much protein because I cant get real solid protein, I work like 10 hrs a day, and shakes are a easier way to get all my protein in!

My doctor put me on appetite suppresants after 2 months of no loss. :(

Is your surgeon fine with your lack of weight loss?  Is your surgeon the one who put you on the appetite suppressant?

Cut out the Quest bars and the nuts. Although Quest bars label the carbs as 'net' I don't think our bodies do a good job telling the difference. So two Quest bars is 40 + grams of carbs alone. Nuts are great, but it is way to easy to eat too many of them. You might have an easier time with hunger if you eat more dense protein and vegetables and less simple carbs. I am not making any judgments.

Eating more "real food" and less shakes and bars will decrease your appetite a lot and help the sleeve work for you
