watching a pig out at the family 4th of july picnic
Not sure what I feel. I'm 6 weeks out and it was a different perspective looking at the types of food eaten, watching others eat/shovel food in their mouths, talk of being on a diet or needing to start one. Overall a bit surreal.
One larger member who I couldn't help bu****ch eat (typically eats a bit more, or a bit less than I did before surgery), ate 4 brats and buns, 3-4 cups of fruit salad, 3-4 cups of potato salad, a brownie, a cupcake, some chips, and about a dozen chocolate chip cookies.
And that is why I got the VSG, even if I was on a diet, I'd have eaten 1/2 of what he ate.
My meal (over 5 hours) was maybe 1/2 cup of fruit, 3-4 oz deli turkey, 4 pringles, 1 cookie. Not on *plan*, but on plan for today. Very pleased with how easy it was to make healthier choices, not graze, and so far, no cravings from those extra carbs.
Everyone sat on lawn chairs as the picnic tables were full of food including chips (7 or 8 kinds), popcorn, bugles, cheetos, 3 crackers, 2 brownies, 2 peanuts, 4 types of cookies, cupcakes, and a couple bags of hard candies. (for 11 adults and 2 kids).
I did want a drink. My family doesn't really drink, at least not at something like today and none was present. First desire since surgery. I'm planning to stay dry at least for the first year, or to goal weight, or forever. It was a part of my life pre-op, but like excess sugar, fat, and carbs I'm willing to give up the extra calories, especially before maintenance (and while my liver/gallbladder is being taxed.
I hope you all enjoyed the holiday and made conscious food choices.

It's amazing how much food we used to eat... we were just like them... and what's more amazing is how much food controls us we can't talk have fun or do any this without it.... I remember about 1 month out my hubby and i were out driving around confused cause we did not know what to do we said to each other..about now we would be at a dinner or friendly or ice cream place now what do we do.... lmao... now at 3 months out we know what to do lol...what a full life transformation this truly is .... and for the better!!! :-)

My splurges, 4 days worth, unfortunately put the large meal I described to shame. I could be 5-8 pounds lighter without my goodbye meals - all part of the process I guess? I was either to full (or to excited for my sleeve). I ended up starting my pre-op shake diet 1.5 days early.
I am scheduled for my gs surgery on July 30th. I have lost a total of 65 lbs so far before the surgery. I have been doing great ,but this weekend I sure did slip. Not sure if it is a mental thing(I start my pre-op diet on the 16th)I still tried to walk my 2 miles a day but losing interest. Seems to me the work week schedule allows me to keep regimented. Will get back on track tomorrow and will definitely not guilt myself too much for slipping.
